Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this place is pretty solid. The inside was clean, casual, and pleasant. The service was great and attentive and from multiple people, which I like. The menu is pretty basic, but they do offer some cool unique dishes. I'd say the food overall was good, fresh, nicely flavored, and plentiful. I tend to favor small hole in the wall Chinese spots in the cities, and not just because they're in the cities, or because they're hole in the walls, but because the food is consistently better. Having said that, if you're in Walnut Creek and looking for a good plate of honey walnut prawns with cloth napkins, then give this place a try. Plenty of parking in lot behind building. I'm sure I'll be back.

I have never been a big fan of Chinese food but this restaurant is the exception, they are awesome! Their food is clean, freshly prepared and very tasty. Their service is excellent and a very friendly staff. There is ample parking in the rear parking lot so you don't have to worry about the extremely over-aggressive Walnut Creek traffic enforcement Gestapo giving you a parking ticket. They have a full bar and make excellent drinks but what really sets them apart is their wide selection of fine wines and their sample tastings you can buy so you can try several different types of wines. This is the best hidden secret in Walnut Creek for fine Chinese dining.

Not my first visit!! I'm visiting out of town but have been here at least 7 times in 1014. BEST Chinese restaurant in the area down to Pleasanton too!! I live out of the area now but discovered this gem during a invite for a company wine tasting. During the 20 glass wine tasting (corporate), numerous samples of menu items were offered. I paced myself but was sold on the tendernous of the beef, clean taste of the chicken and freshness of the shrimp sample plates. Unbelievable how good this restaurant is. Do you enjoy wine? Well, there are over 500 wines which you can order by the bottle at the price the owner purchased to the specific year. NO increase to the bottle. Ask for the list. Your welcome!! EVERY time I visit, I dine in or take out. Oh, the bar area is small BUT a nice spot to dine, have a glass of wine, watch a game and chat with the owner. If you live in Alamo, Blackhawk or Danville....this restaurant will beat all the others!!!

(3.5) Ok so the first couple times I went here I really liked it, hence the reason I suggested me and my girls go here for our bday dinner. However, our experience was a little shaky. The waitresses were very spacey and not attentive. Food was not as good as I remembered either--kinda greasy. I have had good experiences here though and I do remember really liking the veggie clay pot so I may give it another go. The drinks are good and I really like the ambiance.

Well, so far, I'm certainly a fan. After getting off from work and being completely exhausted, you can certainly say I was not in the mood for doing any sort of cooking. So with that being said, I grabbed my fiance and suggested we go to Yans; mostly considering that we were both in the mood for Chinese, and I had been curious of checking them out for a while. We arrived around 6 ish. They have street parking available in the front, as well as a private parking lot around the back of the restaurant. We parked in the back. The restaurant if quite nice, providing plenty of seating, accompanied with a beautiful full bar. We were seated at a table within the bar area. For drinks, being I was in a cocktail mood, and being they had provided a pretty decent cocktail menu, I ended up going with their Lychee Martini ($6.00). My honey went with a coke. Their menu provides most of your standard popular Chinese dishes. I ended up going with the Chicken and Vegetables in a light garlic sauce. He ordered the Broccoli beef and Chicken Chow Mein. All ala carte, being it was the evening. Dishes arrived quickly, and were presented well. My Chicken and Vegetable turned out excellent! The garlic sauce was light and delicate, though not lacking in savory flavor. Chicken was cooked perfectly, as well as the vegetables. I had a bite or two of the Chicken Chow Mein, and for someone who isnt a big chow mein eater, I thought it was absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. I've already been back since, and will certainly be back again.

Great food. Good customer service. Only thing is the food is very expensive. The decor and ambiance is nice too.

Don't be fooled by the shabby exterior, the inside has been completely remodeled with a nice modern touch. Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants around. Fully stocked bar and a TV for your viewing pleasure. The staff is great and attentive. This time around I recommend Yans to my company for Case Management Week (bosses treat). They arrived on time and service was great. Our luncheon included: Kung Pao Chicken Sweet & Sour Pork Broccoli Beef Chicken Chow-mein Kung Pao Prawns Spring Rolls Steam White Rice Mixed Veggies I tried them all, delicious! When I go on my own a favorite Schezwan chicken.

The wine list is both by the glass or by a bottle. The wine list has real values and many bargains! This restaurant has a license to sell you the wine to take out with their great Chinese food. I suggest you try the beef clay pot or ox tail clay pot for a real Chinese specialty. Both the chicken wings and spare ribs go with their Red Wine selection. Have been a regular here for five years as they wine and food never disappoint!!

Really nice, open atmosphere. The staff is pretty attentive and caring(we got served water within 5 seconds of sitting down), but our check got mixed up with another party which isn't a HUGE deal, but a little unprofessional. The eggrolls were nice and crisp and not too oily. The potstickers were tasty, but nothing too extraordinary. My chow fun noodle would've been perfect if it wasn't dominated by bok choy and had only maybe 4 small prawns(I wouldn't of minded paying a little extra for the prawns if I got a good amount). Pretty ok restaurant, but really nothing amazing.

Yan's is our favorite restaurant in the area! We are regulars, eating here about once a week. Yan's has become the yardstick by which we judge all other restaurants. We have tried nearly every dish on the menu, and we have never been disappointed. Everything is fresh and exquisitely prepared. We especially like that the dishes at Yan's pair so well with wine! Whenever we have out of town guests, we bring them to Yan's.

Alex is amazing! I brought him fresh Halibut from Alaska and the dish he made was unbelievable! If you want great food go to Yan's. The owner is a great person and his food never disappoints.

Rude staff. If the sign says open & you welcome the customer inside, extend courtesy. I arrived at 8:49 PM--11 minutes before closing. Server charged up to my table the second I sat down & demanded I order now. When I asked if I could look at the menu first, she became angry, & stood there snorting like a mad bull. Of course I left. If the kitchen is closing, take the open sign down!

Excellent Food, great wine list, and friendly, helpful and great staff. My lobster was perfect and so was the fried rice. I would not normally pick chinese food as my first choice but I will be returning to this Yan's many times.

Ordered a vegetarian dish tonight and they put it in chicken sauce. When he looked at it he said "it's ok, it tastes better this way". They took it back without any questions but merely rinsed off the chicken sauce off instead of making a new dish. When I tried it eat it, it was greasy and tasted horrible. Why doesn't a restaurant understand that they can't do that! This is the 10th time I have gone here and now the last.

I eat at Yan's quite a bit and have never been disappointed. There Mongolian Beef is probably the best I have every had and I also love the Chicken and Asparagus (ask for it a little spicy). The decor is very nice and the staff is attentive.

I think it's slightly more pricier than other Chinese restaurants I've been to by at least $2 per entree. I only had the orange chicken and rice lunch special which I enjoyed. The chicken was slightly greasy. Well, I actually couldn't tell if it was grease or sauce which is unfortunate. I ate it anyway. I wanted to replace the rice with chow mein but that wasn't an option. I wish they would be more accommodating when it comes to switching out things... I'll be back to try the combo chow mein because that's what I'm a sucker for in all Chinese restaurants. :)

I rarely eat Chinese food, but when I do, I come here! Huge portions and I love their mongolian lamb and beef! We have tried a bunch of other things on their menu and everything has been good. I am giving 5 stars because we come here for food, but if I rated their bar, their drinks aren't the best in my opinion.

FOOD: is fairly good, especially for the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area. Their staples are fine, but nothing is amazing. SERVICE: is quite prompt and friendly. The attend to you quickly and pay attention. AMBIANCE: is a little nicer than most Chinese restaurants. There is also a bar with television and some outdoor seating. Parking is convenient in their private lot. VALUE: pretty good for what you get. Most people can eat for around $10.

Enjoyed the food, great service, Warrior game was on tv, good amount of people there for a Wednesday night, used their wifi to get some work done. Will return. Yo Yo

I have dined here several times and the food have been excellent on every occasion. Service is prompt and polite. Prices are very reasonable for the high quality of food that they serve. Noise level is reasonable. Decor is nice. plenty of parking in the back. If you enjoy Chinese food I highly recommend that you try this restaurant. They do have a bar but I don't drink so can't comment on that aspect.

I have eaten here several times and the food has been good each time. The service is acceptable and from those aspects I have no complaints. HOWEVER, I attempted to eat there one evening last week. I called to confirm the closing time, which was 9:00 pm. My wife and I arrived at 8:35, which I thought should have been fine. We were told that it was too late to be seated and we could order take out.. It seems that if they don't wish to seat patrons after 8:30 they should just show their closing time at 8:30, not 9:00.

I had the displeasure of coming to yan's after a long drive home and ordered tea which was tepid with one tea bag (barely enough to get the essence of jasmine), then ordered bok choy with mushrooms, smoked duckling, honey walnut prawns, and brown rice. After tasting the smoked duckling and finding it to be both overcooked and tasting of ham, my mother and I asked for the lemon chicken they graciously changed the ordered which bumped them up a star in my book but I found the food to be overall a rather disappointing experience. The bay area is full of GREAT Chinese food and I was sad to return to this after 2 years living down in San Diego without a visit.

I've passed by this joint on my way to work for the past 6 years and always wondered what this place was all about. The curiosity of this place and craving for Chinese food brought me here last week. Glad I took a chance on this place! The Honey Walnut Prawns were amazing! Fresh and not too saucy. The Shrimp Chow Fun was delicious. They definitely don't skimp on the shrimp plus they add my favorite vegetable, bok choy. I'm a fan of their Mongolian Beef! Tender beef and the sauce is super good! The combination fried rice was also delicious. Prices are reasonable. There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant. The employees are friendly. My only gripe for the service was the wait time for take out. The employee on the phone said 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes after placing the order and didn't get my food till 20 minutes after arriving. Overall, I'd come back for the food!

Yan's is beyond amazing. Alex's selection of wines, yes wines, is indescribable. You will have to page through the multi-page listing yourself. The food is excellent as well. If you are into spicy, make sure you ask for it really spicy as they tend to lean towards the not hot side.

I have eaten here many times, at a table, at the bar & take out. It is absolutely the best Chinese food in COCO county!! The staff is always friendly, the service is impeccable & I love the idea of the full bar, with focus on wine. The owner is always here & very personable. One of my favs is the salt & pepper calamari!! If you haven't eaten here, make a point! Great food!!!

Not sure why people insist on reviewing places negatively after one visit unless the place was beyond horrible. They should be ashamed of themselves because most of the less than 4 star reviews are from wannabe food critics. Pretty much why I am reviewing Yan's now is to counter at least one of the unjustified bad reviews. This place is consistently good food for a good price with above average service. I have been here dozens of time for lunch and I have had only 1-2 times where either the service was slow or the food was not awesome. I highly recommend Yan's for anyone who likes good service and good food on a regular basis.

This is a solid little Chinese American bistro with a full bar and extensive wine list. The food is consistently hot, fresh and delicious and the service is attentive. I prefer this to PF Changs aand the prices are in line with your run of the mill no frills takeout.

I adore Chinese food, and I have been driving past this place for years thinking "Oooooh gotta try them, someday, someday". Someday finally came, and BF and I popped in for dinner around 7 on a Thursday night. The interior is quite nice, familiar in that family-owned way but with some nice elegant touches. We were seated in the dining room to the left with many other patrons. We enjoyed the elegance of the room and it was fun to see the full bar behind us. Lots of tasty options on the menu, including a few classy house specialties. We stuck with our usual favorites of potstickers, Mongolian beef, and Hong Kong style chow mein with chicken. I was really in the mood for meaty and savory, and I saw Happy Family on their menu which I hadn't had in years - ring that up too, we'll have leftovers galore! The food came out at a good pace, and our water glasses were filled often. The Mongolian beef was definitely the winner, great flavor and good spiciness. The Hong Kong noodles were tasty too, chicken was nice and tender, vegetables cooked perfectly, and yummy crispy noodles. I was also delighted when my nose caught the wonderful whiff of Jasmine rice in our steamed rice bucket - love when that happens!! Unfortunately we did have a couple stumbling points. 1) Our bottle of soy sauce had an eyelash stuck to the side of it. 2) Our potstickers were partially burnt, and combined with the mild-mannered flavor of the pork & veggie filling, they weren't very memorable. 3) The Happy Family, while filled with well cooked meat, seafood and veggies all served sufficiently warm, was topped with a brown sauce that had a very coagulated texture. Neither of us were pleased with those two dishes. I also can't necessarily hold this against the restaurant, but halfway through our meal, 3 loud male patrons came in and were seated next to us. I know the manager of this restaurant is named Alex, because one of these guys shouted his name loud enough for the entire dining room to hear at least 30 times! I also know they have a great wine list, and these guys sure know their red wine, and he knew his friends would be treated well if they came to see Alex, blah blah blah. I don't blame a restaurant for their patrons, but it's tough when a manager does nothing to calm the behavior of rowdy obnoxious guests. The mood at our table and all other tables around us shifted uncomfortably when these 3 d-bags arrived. And unfortunately Alex talked with them and assisted with all their requests, so I can only assume regulars with fat wallets get better treament than us lowly newbies. It's a shame. Yan's in general is a good restaurant, but hiccups with our food combined with disruptive regulars has now given me a bad association - I could not wait to leave. I would return, but they won't be on my regular rotation.

Tried this place last night. Went in their based on Yelp reviews and would say I was not disappointed. Ordered fried chicken wings salt & pepper style, orange chicken, and veg fried rice. The portions was of ample quantity. The food was fresh and tasty. Food was hot and of right flavor. Price was right average dish cost $10. Reason for 4 stars rather than 5 stars is I said takeout but was not provided with cutleries or sauces. The order was processed quickly. Will go back to this place for Chinese food. The salt & pepper fried chicken wings was bomb. Also, the rice used for the Fried rice was not fully cooked which made the rice chewy.

I have been here 3 times in the last 3 weeks but this time I was very disappointed, I ordered orange pork chops which were just OK, and my husband ordered Kung Pao trio, which other restaurants is Beef, Chicken and Shrimp, well at Yan's it was Calamari, Shrimp and little Scallops, you could smell the bad aroma of the seafood, we told the waiter and he took it back and supposedly took out the Calamari, but there was still some left, and the bad smell was still there, if fish is FRESH there should be no smell, and seriously he should have taken it back and had him order something else, my husband or I could not eat it and left it, we were charged full price for something that was bad Sorry but we do not recommend this place. If they at least have him ordered something else it would have been fine but to charge us for something that is bad is not Cool....... Well the owner got hold of me and apologized, I will surely try them again because the other two times they were great. Just kind of a misunderstanding with the wait staff. Tried it again and it is wonderful

Very surprised to find a high quality Chinese take-away in Pleasant Hill. Portions were huge and were very good quality. No waiting around to pick up our food either. Will make this our regular.

Food was okay. Nothing special. Shrimp was way over cooked. The back entrance needs attention. Kind of a turn off, as it was quite dirty looking the night we went. The service started off ok, but when we did not order alcohol it quickly went south. They PREFER the liquor mark up, I guess. The server brought us the check before we got our hot tea! No drinks, no loitering around, waiting for your tea. LOL!

We have now come here numerous times and we always take family here. The staff is very polite and responsive and the food comes quickly. This is our go to restaurant for Chinese food in the East Bay. The chicken and green beans, broccoli and beef, and chicken chow mein are our favorites.

If you enjoy a cheap Chinese lunch special with all the proper accommodations, look no future than Yans. The Mongolian beef is their top menu item but everything else is decent as well. Whether paired with a side of fried rice, white, or brown, Yans offers that filling, quick lunch with a nice and easy flair.

After leaving our movie, and driving from Pleasant Hill, to Lafayette, to Walnut Creek looking for food, eventually we decided on Yan's. The outside looks like any other buisness on the street, the inside however looked great. The first dining room was fairly big, with a kitchen clearly visible behind the counter. You take two steps up to the next dining room that is probably about half the size, with most of the guests sitting there. A beautiful bar to one side, and tables to the other, with a bathroom in the back. We were asked where we wanted to sit. There were only two tables left so we took the one closest to us. After going over the menu for a bit we decided on four items. I was really craving pot stickers and I know Terri will never turn them down, so that was a done deal. I also ordered Mongolian beef. Terri ordered the Hong Kong style chow mein and the happy family. The pot stickers looked and tasted a little burnt. I don't mind crispy, but this was a little much. The filling however was good, and the chili sauce helped cover the burnt taste a bit. The happy family was filled with some good stuff. I haven't had scallops in a long time and these scallops were really quite good. As were the prawns. Just awesome. I'm not a huge fan of the chow mein like Terri is but I will eat it. It was good, but didn't really stand out from other chow mein dishes I have had before. The star of my night was the Mongolian beef. So much flavor, and packed with spice that I had three plates of just that. Some other things I liked about the place were small things like the waiter repeating the order back to us after we place it, and that they put mints with the fortune cookies. The one thing I really didn't like about the place was eventually the table next to us was filled with three very loud gentlemen. I won't go into details about it but it did take a little bit of the fun out of the night. Overall I might try the place again in the future but am not in any rush to go back.

I ordered chicken w/ vegi's & when the dish came it was prawns w/ vegi's! It was too Americanized for me. I had better Americanized Chinese food than that. Sad to say but true! Now i feel like throwing up!

Very typical chinese american bistro place, which is great! cause i like that! I also go for my typical family mean of Friend Rice, Chow Mein, Mongonlian Beef and some sort of Friend Chicken in sauce and it came exactly as expected. I did get the Beef Chow Mein and I would not recommend doing beef with this dish, it looked like boiled meat..kinda gray and gross. I did take out.

After waiting here for 20 mins. and watching everyone else eat, then the portion was small...I asked for fried rice but I don't know what hell it was I would have done better at panda express, it was the worse salt and pepper fried pork chop ever, it was soft and actually I could not tell what type of meat it was....everything HORRIBLE including the service. Never again!

Came here for lunch a couple weeks ago. Our party of 4 arrived around 11:45am, beating the lunch rush. We were immediately seated and given salads. It was pretty much a Dole pre-washed lettuce mix with a very sweet dressing. I didn't care for it. We each ordered a lunch special which came with a soup of the day and white or brown rice. The soup was a Hot and Sour soup that I really enjoyed. I got the Orange Chicken. Don't give me that judgey look!! I actually really like orange chicken. It's just one of those things that you like or don't like, okay?! :P Anyway, I didn't particularly like the flavor of it. Probably due to the orange zest. Isn't it ironic that I like the orange chicken that tastes the least like oranges?! I have also tried their Honey Walnut Prawns. Very good, but rich. Definitely share these dishes or you'll be sorry that you'll have to finish the entire entree yourself!! The wait staff was pleasant and constantly refilled our waters. Price point is great for those on a budget or are looking for good value. There is a private lot in the back of the restaurant and if you're lucky, street parking in the front.

Like I said in my previous review, the chicken is prepared well. But they've got a sauce problem. See my previous post for the Szechuan. I've since had the orange flavored chicken, and the sauce for that dish just looked and tasted so artificial. It's a real shame.

Usually just get the Mongolian beef and by far the best place to get that dish. Will have to try out the other dishes soon. Plus staff is very friendly and when I order to go the estimated time is consistent and ready when I get there.

Our go to place in WC for chinese food. The sweet and sour chicken is amazing and the General Tso chicken is also fab. They have a great way of pan frying the chicken which makes it lightly fried and very juicy. Its all white meat and very high quality. Sauces are great. The sweet and sour chicken is equally as good. Highly recommend it and our kids love it.

I don't know what all the rave reviews are about. I usually go to a PHENOMENAL Place in downtown WC, but my office moved so was looking for something closer. It was just so bland. The corn soup was average, the salad way tiny and ok but sauce had more of a rice vinegar flavor to it. I got the Szechwen chicken with fried rice and honestly it tasted like Panda Express. The dish said it was spicy but it had NO heat at all. Just really bland. The place was pretty busy with the lunch crowd though. I have no idea why. Maybe there aren't many options in that area for lunch...or maybe these patrons have not had great chinese food and think this is good. Either way I would not go back. I would rather drive downtown and fight for a parking spot to eat at Dragon's Pond on Locust. It is worth the hassle. Just sayin...

This place is delish! Food, decor and staff are great. Mr Yans normally in the house and is always eager to help his customers and staff. Take out is just as good as eating in. Place gets busy so sometimes you might be waiting outside. Cheers

I first started going to Yan's Alamo location and have always loved the food there. This location, on a busy section of N Main St, also has great high-quality food, but isn't quite as tasty as the Alamo spot. The WC restaurant has older decor, a giant, well-stocked bar, and friendly servers. There is a nice size parking lot out back, and they have a very good selection of wines to choose from, which is a bit unusual for a Chinese restaurant Recommended

Had dinner here with my mini crew. Must say it was really good! Service was really good which for some reason lately places have been lacking in that department. Had chow mein fried rice general tos chicken broccoli beef and egg rolls. I liked it all will for sure go back again.

Only love certain dishes at this restaurant. We ordered salt and pepper chicken wings which were lightly crunchy and flavorful! Their sweet and sour pork was one of the best we ever had. The sizzling rice soup and pot stickers were good, but the portions were small for the price we paid. There were only 4 pot stickers in an order and were not the best. The sizzling rice soup broth could have been richer so we probably won't order that again. We had Chinese sausage, pinenuts and green onion rice, which was delicious and we'd ordered again. This is a go back place! Just learning what we like and don't like here. Have to try more dishes!

I usually pick up from their lunch menu and when I have the opportunity- I dine in. Quaint set-up with hidden parking in the very back :) Look for a really small sign in a barely visible driveway that says, "Yans parking in the back" and take it ALL the way back :) There's outdoor seating but it's lowered with a view of the parking lot so choose to dine inside when possible. The restaurant is broken up into 2 levels separated by a couple of steps to a "higher" dining area next to a long bar. The lower dining area offers you a view of part of the kitchen and tvs to watch the games. The ambiance isn't too shabby resembling a mix of pub/sportsbar vs. chinese restaurant. Service is SUPER friendly and accommodating. They'll let you sit wherever really especially if they're not busy. (I tend to take a way late lunch like 2 pmish). I typically family style it when I'm with friends-meaning I'll order from the full menu and not the lunch specials but it's ALL pretty standard American-Friendly-Chinese food and service is attentive and kind. Their bar is ridiculously and surprisingly well-stocked. Go in, have some decently prepared Chinese food, watch the game and/or take it to go. You won't be disappointed.

We ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp.. And after tasting it, it was obviously doused in mayo. Sooo, I asked our waitress what the sauce was, and guess what her answer was!? It's marinated in special sauce.. To which I retorted, "like mayonnaise?".. To which she replied, "I don't know, I don't cook." - Seriously? One of the most expensive items on your menu (and you're a waitress, who should know the ingredients on your menu) and you leave us with THAT answer? Wow. Never going back there!!!

By far the best Chinese food ever! Every time we come here it is consistently delicious. They make the best spicy orange chicken, honey walnut prawns, mu shu, mongolian beef, you name it, it's the best. It is small but very nice. The bar area is beautiful and the staff is quick and friendly! The food is so good it has ruined me for any other Chinese food!

I've eaten at Yan's a couple of times now, both at lunch, and the crispy fish fillets are absolutely phenomenal. My wife and her sister have a ritual and come here almost every Friday. While I've only joined them twice so far, I must say it's some of the best fish I've eaten in quite a while. Their corn soup is also quite tasty. I don't particular find their potsticker impressive and their crab cheese puffs aren't particularly amazing either. Still, they deserve 5 stars because that fish is simply OFF THE HOOK.

Typically, I like most Chinese restaurant food. It's got to be bad before I will give it a bad review. This time though, I was with some very discriminating fellow customers. We all agreed that the food was great, the service was efficient and friendly, and the price was fair.

My dad knows I eat out a lot and he always leaves the restaurant choices to me, but I feel like a fish out of water when I'm in the East Bay. Thank God for yelp, right? We had an early dinner and got to the resto at 5:30pm. It was busy for a Monday. Perusing the menu, one is bombarded with choices, there must be 50 dishes offered here! We decided on an app and a couple of entrees. The Steamed chicken dumplings had thin skin and ample meat, served with red wine vinegar, piping hot and delicious! The crispy smoked duck was a marinated half duck in a five-spice sauce, smoked with tea leaves and deep fried to perfection. Moist insides and crispy skin, a little bland to my taste. Spicy orange chicken was advertised as such, but we requested it to be mild. Deep fried chicken tossed with (few) hot peppers, dried orange peels in a "special" sweet and sour sauce. The bf liked this a lot and he loves Panda Express' version too. ;-) We ate our entrees with their chow fun and wok fried rice, you can't really go wrong with that. I love tofu so we ordered the soft tofu mixed veggies cooked in white wine sauce. The delicate flavors with fresh crunch from the veggies makes this a winning(!) dish for me. Having a full bar allowed my dad to order his favorite cocktail, a blended margarita with lots of salt. Well, who the heck orders margies at a Chinese resto right? of course, it wasn't very good! LOL. Nevertheless, the ample servings and Chinese food done right, coupled with fast service, make Yan's a regular stop for me whenever I'm on this side of the bay.

We've been going to this restaurant for over 5 years almost on a weekly basis and have never had a bad meal there. I love the bar atmosphere- very cozy and warm. The food is always consistent and there is a large selection of wines. We especially live the 3 combo kung po with yummy seafood. Excellent! The servers are really nice there as well. I have recommended this place to all of my friends.

I think we found our fav. Restaurant around our area!!! My husband picked up dinner after work and it was just delicious! Great portions, tons of meat unlike other restaurants where it's 90% vegetables. Reasonable prices. We will be coming back for sure!

Hands down the best Chinese food in the East Bay. The honey walnut prawns are a must and they also have a full bar with great wine selection! Food is so tasty and has me going back at least once a week - not always a good thing but worth it.

This is my favorite Chinese spot in WC. The food is good and not greasy like some other places in the area. The prices are a little higher than some of the Chinese restaurants in the area but definitely worth an extra buck or two. I normally call ahead to pick up my orders on my way home from work but after a stressful day, I opted for delivery. The lady who took my order thanked me many times for placing my order. I live in a large apartment complex and was planning on having to meet the delivery guy in the parking lot assuming he couldn't find the place but Nope! he was right on time and delivered straight to my door with hot & delicious Chinese food. Every carton was packed full! My favorites are cashew chicken, vegetable fried rice, Mongolian beef, and the vegetarian hot & sour soup. Great service and even better food! Yummmm

Not only do they have the best and freshest chinese food but the Service really tops it off. So accommodating and friendly! A definite favorite in walnut creek!

We have had Yans several times at our company luncheons and it never disappoints. Even though the batches are large, the food still tastes great and fresh. I like that the food is not super greasy, it doesn't make you feel bloated after. Great service as well by Alex.

I was in Walnut Creek on business and low and behold this place was just up the street from my hotel. They do an amazing amount of carry out business; I saw numerous orders heading out the door while I waited for my carry out. I ordered the Fried Calamari and Cantonese Noodles Chow Fun and I must say both dishes were really disappointing. Both dishes were lacking in the flavor category. They both looked pretty (even in a white styrofoam container) but both were very bland. The cantonese noodle dish was just a giant gummy mess and I thought the dish was a little greasy. I wouldn't give either of these dishes another try. I would, however, based on the numerous positve reviews give the restaurant ONE more try. The interior is nice and the staff was attentive. The kitchen was crazy fast and a lot of pretty dishes were coming out of the kitchen. Pretty is important as you eat with your eyes first, but it's also got to pass the taste test. So if I were local I'd give them another try-perhaps they were having an off night or maybe I just didn't make good selections. Based on the reviews I wanted to like this place and I was excited to try it but it didn't live up to the rave reviews for me tonight.

Went on the 4 stars from the Yelp reviewers. This I one time I'm going to disagree with the reviews. We got the duck lettuce wraps, Angus beef clay pot and Honey Walnut Prawns. It's the first Chinese restaurant I've ever been to in the Bay Area without any Asian customers. That should have been a warning. Lettuce wraps and beef clay pot were lacking flavor. Very bland. The Honey Walnut Prawns were the best of the 3 dishes but nothing special. Overall, it was underwhelming and we won't be going back.

I never been here. I hardly go to Walnut creek, but today, one out of town guest come. So we meet up here. Originally I was so worry about parking, lucky this place is not in the downtown mess. It has it own parking at the back. Order 4 dishes, kao pao shrimp and scallop , and mongolian beef and lemon chicken. This is lunch time. Food arrive very fast and taste very good. I heard the chef speak cantonese. (I speak the same thing). This restaurant's decor is regular, not fancy, but I do like it. Simple and clean. If you are looking for pretentious, super-upscale decor, then this is not your restaurant. I highly recommend for the food and just meet some friends for dinner is good. Will come again.

This is our favorite neighborhood chinese place. It's very Americanized, but in a good way. The food is always fresh, not overly spiced, not overly greasy, and always tasty. The dining area is also clean and pleasant, although bathroom could be a little better, but it''s a Chinese restaurant after all. My only complaint with the menu is that they really don't have enough pork dishes, which is kind of ridiculous for a Chinese restaurant. What they do have is very good, but I think they are over-catering to the WC yuppy taste on this point. Otherwise, it's a great place for a nice American style Chinese dinner, everything we've tried in our dozens of visits have been good. I love their fried noodles, mongolian beef, hot and sour soup, chicken lettuce wraps, etc. Also, they have a full bar, so you can get hammered on your choice of booze if you'd like.

Pretty good food here. We tried rice noodles, asparagus prawns and scallops with vegetables. All were tasty, fresh and generously sized. They have brown rice available on request. Friendly and prompt service. Atmosphere is nicer than most, but not white-table cloth formal. Easy parking in the rear.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant around the area so far (after PF Chang's of course). The food is amazing, good quality, quantity (we always end boxing our food) and the prices are very fair! Last but not least, I'm amazed by the great service they always have, specially because Chinese restaurants aren't the best on service; no matter who your waitress is, they all work as a team! I can't wait to go back! DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!!!

Service: 4 stars Wonton soup: 2 stars Egg roll: 2.5 stars Tea not included: 1 star The soup looked like they made it super fast... the broth was dull, or lackluster. It absolutely had no flavor. However, the wontons itself was okay. I don't know why people gave it such high marks, it's the reason I came. I'm guessing Suburbanites don't really know food? P.s. Are u kidding me? Charge for tea at a Chinese restaurant?

The gf and I were in the Chinese food mood, and didn't wanna deal with traffic. We had the won ton soup (w/ chicken). OMG, sooo good!!! The gf says, "Of all the soups, this place makes it the best." The wonton dumplings were tasty, and every bite of the mushrooms to the green onion to the shrimp were boiled in the flavorful broth just right. The broth "might", now I said "might" be a lil' salty, but it wasn't overwhelming. Ordered the General Tsou's Chicken - which is now my favorite dish - which was just Deee-Li-Cious... The chicken and the glaze/sauce had just the right heat. We also had the Dragon & Something Nest (it was a monthly special). The vegetables were also cooked just right. No salt on this entree. ...and excellent service again!!!

This used to be my go-to Chinese restaurant, but I've been seriously neglecting dear Yan's. Here's a quickie review: Their lunch specials are generous portions of tasty entrees that come with your choice of brown or white rice, soup and salad. I recently converted to vegetarianism, so the diverse choice of meatless meals is a pleasant change of pace. I ordered the mixed veggies, and my dining companion chose the eggplant with garlic sauce. Both were pretty tasty. The brown rice was perfect. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when the rice is inedible, but this place did a great job. I'll be back again.

I'm new to the area and have been looking for good Chinese. The only place I had tried so far was the place across the street by Walgreen's, China Palace, which we thought was expensive and we didn't really care for it. I'm the type who has NO desire whatsoever to go out to dinner on Valentine's Day. So we decided on Chinese takeout. I researched a handful of places on Yelp, and originally decided on Ming's in Pleasant Hill, but after calling them 50 times in 30 minutes and constantly getting a busy signal, I figured I'd try the next one on my list and see if I could at least get through, or if getting ANY Chinese takeout was just going to be impossible. Nope! Yan's answered and I placed my order. We were feeding ourselves plus 2 kids and a 10mo old baby. We ordered: 1 order of potstickers, 1 order of spring rolls, 1 order of pork fried rice, 1 order of chicken chow mein, 1 order of lemon chicken, 1 order of General Tso's chicken, and an order of white rice for 2. Our total was around $60 with tip, which I did think was on the high side, but we did order a lot of food and if the quality was there, I would be fine with the price. She told us to come in about 20 minutes. We actually live very close to this place and could've walked there, but I wasn't 100% sure where exactly it was, so we opted to drive even though we were concerned about what the parking situation would be like. There was a ton of parking!! There is a little driveway with a small lot and then another larger lot behind that. We did have to wait about 20 minutes inside (after already showing up 25 minutes after we placed the order - so 45 minutes total), but they were PACKED and it was Valentine's Day so no biggie and I totally expected it. We amused ourselves by giggling about all the people who opted to go out ;) The place looked nice and pretty big. It looked like there was 2 dining areas and possibly a bar in the other room. It seemed pretty clean. We got home with our food and everything looked good and hot. The fried rice was good, typical. The chicken chow mein was great! I especially loved that there were no bean sprouts as I hate those funky stringy things -.- I also absolutely LOVED the lemon chicken! I normally order sesame chicken and was bummed that it wasn't something they make, but this was delicious and totally made up for it. The General Tso's was good. Not very spicy but it had good flavor. The appetizers were also both really good. All in all, I thought the flavors and quality were great and totally worth the price. There was no sacrifice in quality and the food was hot even on this busy day of the year. We'll definitely be going back and glad we won't be resorting to China Palace.

I've been here a few times because my dogs' vet is around the corner. This is a late review as I haven't been here in months... They have amazing food, always fresh, great customer service. Love the sizzling rice soup! The lunch portions are filling. Dinner is also nice.

The new Yan's in Orinda is much better than this Yan's. The food here is not the greatest, especially if you are craving good Chinese food. Each piece of the sweet and sour pork is either a hit or miss - some pieces are yummy, or the entire piece is fat, not meat. However, each piece seemed to be really soft (the batter on top wasn't very crunchy). Little bit weird and mushy. Decent soups, though. A personal favorite of mine is the sizzling rice soup. Although I usually like to go to Orinda for that dish, this restaurant does an okay job of making it. Compared to other Chinese restaurants in Walnut Creek, I'd say Yan's is one of the better ones and is a pretty safe bet.

My family had an almost unhealthy love affair with the "old" Yan's that used to stand proudly in Lafayette. Alas, when that one closed a few months ago, we were thrown into a cloud of confusion; those were dark days. Then, we found out there's another one in Walnut Creek, and right by BevMo?! Who knew? As for this new location, I noticed the menu was a teensy bit different from the other one, but still full of yummy options. This particular time I got chicken with green beans and it was savory and delicious. All in all, pretty standard Chinese fare, probably a little on the "white" side if ya get my drift. But nothing wrong with that! A couple words of warning: 1. The cocktails are stronger than they look. 2. Parking blows, but there are a few places around back. I figure park in Sprouts and it gives you a good excuse to stop by there too, hooray!

Ate here for the first time tonight. The food and atmosphere was fantastic. Service was spectacular. The War Won Ton Soup, Lovers Prawns, Salt and Pepper Calamari and chicken with veggies were the stuff that will have me coming back again. The only downfall: I busted my ass on the way to the bathroom. I went all the way to the ground and landed on my back. There is a slippery tile area right in between the bathroom and dining/bar section. You guys really need a mat or something. I hopped up hoping nobody saw me go down but it didn't feel great. Really, you guys need to do something about that. Putting out 4 "Slippery Floor" signs isn't cutting it...

Not a bad little place. We ordered food togo and we both agreed that it may have been better if it was eaten there. the soup was good, but the wontons were small and not very stuffed (more noodle), but the flavor of the broth was delicuous! It was good, just not a *wow* factor. I will say even in the brief moment I was in there picking up the food, the customer service was great though!

8/12/12 was my first time dining here - even though my parents and some friends have spoken very highly and it's not far from my home. Our group of six met for a dinner and having arrived first my husband and I easily found parking on the street in front. I imagine there is a lot behind the restaurant as well. If you miss the turn you'll be circling a large block though, so pay attention! With a little time to kill we ordered a large hot sake to share - it was $7.04 and the standard "large" size. Served hot with two cups - fair price. Once our group was all present several plates and appetizers were ordered. Two orders of calamari arrived and after eating a couple pieces of it (and enjoying the fried pieces) I asked what I was eating. It was very think cut which isn't all that common, and there were no tentacles - just "steak-like" strips. The only thing that impressed me was that it wasn't very oily for a fried dish. The breading was very light. I missed the tentacles though. Chinese chicken salad, broccoli beef, a spicy seafood plate, some burrito like-entree, cream cheese crab puffs, and another dish all graced our table. It was all very good. So much food! Service wasn't bad either. The dishes were a little bit pricey but the portions made up for it; sort of. Most Chinese restaurants have share-able portions... so it remains somewhat pricey. The chinese chicken salad had a better salad with more chicken and those crispy white stick pieces, than 3 Brothers from China in Pleasant Hill, but I like the 3 Brothers dressing a little better. It was very good though. No complaints about food at all!

the two stars for the poor quality of service. It was 15 minutes from the time we were seated until a waiter acknowledged us. Our drink orders and food orders were taken but we never did received our drinks. After 45 minutes from entering the restaurant sitting with no drinks and still no dinner we decided to leave. I'll give the glass of water 4 stars.

We gave this place a shot the other night... just as the other reviews stated, the food was bland. I can't say I wouldn't come here again but next time, salt and hot sauce should help. In the meantime, there are better places to go and I would only come back if I wanted something super close by.

Not in my lifetime will we ever go back. I should have known when we passed by kitchen staff near the entrance of the kitchen smoking and spitting that we we're in for a bad night, but decided to trust a friend who had recommended the joint. The service was erratic the lady who initially helped us couldn't be found for like 20 minutes so we had to flag down another person to order, after we ordered the mystery lady showed back up and asked us if we wanted to order I thought it was a scene out of the twilight zone. We ordered from the house specialty, mango chicken, all breaded no chicken to be found the mangos were not ripe, basically disgusting. The pepper beef was undercooked, and the sweet and sour shrimp were a strange color, let alone the vegetables that were in the dish looked as if they had not been washed. We managed to keep down the combo fried rice, but called for the check as soon as we could, needless to say, not a pleasant outing.

I give this place 4 stars for TAKE OUT. I've never dined in so I can't rate it. I was across the street at Walgreens waiting for a Prescription to get filled and figured i'd check around for something to take home for dinner. My girlfriend phoned in our order and it was ready on time, was hot, fresh, and tasted pretty good. I just felt like it was lacking that last star for being something special. Considering the cost of chinese food is pretty high in comparison to most take out types of food.

Can't believe last night was my first visit here! I am not a huge fan of Chinese food (not my first choice for a dinner out) but my bf loves it so I am always searching for a place that I will love as well as he does. After reading the reviews and the menu online we decided to check it out. Easy, free parking-which is a plus in Walnut Creek on Friday night-even though we were not near downtown, this place definitely has the decor and ambiance to match any place down there. We ordered the veggie spring rolls for an appetizer, which were only $3, so I wasn't expecting much. But, wow! They were a decent portion and very flavorful. Our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the family style tofu which was cooked just right-the sauce had some kick to it and all the veggies (corn, zuchini, mushrooms and snow peas) were crisp and fresh-cooked to perfection. The bf enjoyed his lemon chicken and our bill with appetizer and two meals AND rice all came to about $26. VERY reasonable prices. I had leftovers and am so bummed, cause I walked out and left my bag on the table-excellent portion size-too bad I won't get to have the other half of my dinner :( Also, I give them props for charging the same for brown rice as they do for white rice-most places charge more which is lame. Definitely will be back-hopefully will get to try one of the lunch specials soon.

Best Chinese food in East Bay. Hands down. I have literally brought 20+ people to Yan's for their first time and they are all avid returning customers. There are times I haven't come in for 2 months and as soon as I sit down the waiter says "Mongolian Beef? No green onion?". Always remembers my order the food is excellent. My wife usually gets the Lemon Chicken which is my 2nd favorite dish.

Delicious vegetarian options: string beans with Kung pao tofu & garlic eggplant are my favs. Love their brown rice too. When I was a meat eater I really liked their black pepper beef & salt and pepper pork chops. Extensive wine selection, usually a game on the flat screen at the bar. Cozy, love this place :)

Authentic Chinese food in Walnut Creek! Have ordered both take-out and dine-in. Impressed every time with the quality, quantity, and freshness of the food, the polite and attentive service, and cleanliness of the dining area. Everything I've tried is great. Price is still pretty expensive for Chinese food ($10- $15/dish) but then again, I'm in Walnut Creek. I've tried: 1. Chinese Sausage Fried Rice with Pine Nuts - definitely authentic fried rice with no soy sauce and taken to a new level with the pine nuts. 2. Chicken with String Beans - the string beans were very crunchy and fresh. 3. Hot & Sour Soup - OK. If you dine-in, it's free. Otherwise, not worth it to order. The lunch specials are served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily and includes soup, salad, and choice of brown rice or steamed rice (nice option). Accepts CC and even during lunch time, does not have a long wait. Delivery is relatively fast. With the Chinese options in Walnut Creek, Yan's is definitely on the top of my list.

I don't understand the high ratings. My husband and I both thought this was the worst Chinese food we've had. We got takeout and it was very bland, the crab rangoon was greasy with scarce filling, and the broccoli was undercooked. I hate to waste food, and this was the first time in years where I've thrown away leftovers.

Got the family dinner #1 for two and loved it. Especially the sweet and sour chicken! This being within walking distance of our apartment could prove to be a problem. :)

4 stars??? Not based on the recent takeout I ordered. I had General Tsou's chicken which was tough, chewy, bland even with the warning on the menu that it was spicy and worst of all some pieces were not fully cooked. No way was it fresh chicken and after trying a couple of pieces threw it out. The better half had the fish fillet with veggies which was also very bland with the fish indistinguishable and tasteless. This was also thrown out. My daughter and her hubby had the asparagus and chicken which is their regularly ordered dish and they enjoyed it. The fried rice and pot stickers were ok but not great.

Okay, Alex the owner personally messaged me about the unfortunate incident I had here. I'm sure if he knew, he would of apologized or at least discounted the item off the bill. I hope the Servers and Cooks can take accountability if this happens again. I will be back Alex to try you out again.

Ordered the spicy pork chops, beef chow fun and Dragon and Phoenix in Crispy Nest. The Pork Chops and Crispy Nest were overly salted and the Chow Fun was just ok. The vegetables in the chow fun were whole and not separated like a typical Chinese Restaurant would serve. I would not go go back again. Good thing we were just passing by.

Not sure why I havent written a review for Yan's all this time, but I use to come here for lunch at least twice a month for over 2 years cuz I was working 2 blocks away...and cuz Yan's is awesome! Since moving to a project in San Ramon, my Yan's tradition ended -- but I came back last night to to reminisce -- and as always, a solid dining experience was delivered -- so I had to pay my tribute here on yelp :) I've had dinner here a few times, but their lunch deals (11:30-3pm) are definitely the best. Super yummy hot-and-sour soup included, white/brown rice, and a small salad too. My favorites include: Kung Pao Prawns ($7.50) -- Fried and meaty prawns in delicious sauce. No soggy batter, I promise. Mongolian Beef ($6.95) -- Tender beef, and lots of fresh broccoli - not special, but a staple! Black Pepper Beef ($6.95) -- Yummy and peppery, like the mongolian beef, but more savory. Eggplant and Garlic Sauce ($6.75) -- My favorite -- they cook it just right and the sauce is fantastic. Though they charge hole in the wall prices, Yan's is definitely not one. Great decor -- a true bistro. Good wine selection and a real bar too. Service is awesome too -- the staff are always friendly and fast -- never once complained when we split the bill with 6-7 cards during colleague lunches. I think they're doing well as they're opening another location in Alamo -- good for them :)!

I was in the area visiting my sister and brother-in-law, and we got food to go for dinner. Chicken with Fresh Vegetables: Light and good Salt & Pepper Baby Pork Chops: Not what I was expecting, but actually pretty good. Chow Mein: was good Brown Rice: LOVED that they had brown rice avaliable. I would come back to this place.

We love both the Alamo and the Walnut Creek Yan's. The prices are more than reasonable, and the service is always excellent. We love the food most of all, as it is unique for a Chinese restaurant in this price range. The kung pao combo and the Mongolian beef are two of our favorites.

Hell to the Yeah. I was introduced to Yan's while on a business trip. We all went to dinner (on a Sunday night, not sure why it says it closes at 3 but we were there until about 8 or 8:30) after one of the company's owners expressed distaste for the menu at the restaurant in our hotel (Renaissance ClubSport; I thought the menu looked fine but to each their own and actually, I'm glad she didn't because otherwise, we wouldn't have gone to Yan's!), so we all decided on Chinese food...if you were a Bay Area transplant living in Medford, you'd understand how crucial decent Chinese food really is lol. Anyway, we weren't expecting it to be so amazing, but it was! The mango chicken with snow peas is absolutely delicious, as were the mu shu chicken, kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef. I don't even remember all the dishes we had...but I do remember being amazed that I was so happy with each and every one. There was not a single thing that didn't make me moan with delight. The wine was good, too, and the service was impeccable. If you're in the area, go there. I'm serious. I have not had better Chinese food in the East Bay. For me, the North and South bay have the edge on that, but as far as the East goes, Yan's owns it.

I recently went here with my Mom for lunch as I was visiting back home, in Walnut Creek. I thought Yan's China Bistro was a decent spot for Americanized Chinese food. The quality was pretty good and the service was great. I just didn't find this kind of Chinese food to have a wow-factor but than again it's Americanized.

We had been here when it first opened. Was impressed back then but was a total letdown tonight. Appetizer: Fried Prawns were small and served 4 pieces. Overpriced for what is given. The BBQ Short Ribs were great. Unfortunately the only highlight of the night. Entrees: Salt Pepper pork chop was heavily battered and consisted of mostly fat than actual meat. As I stated in another review, New Lim in Concord has the best Salt Pepper Pork. Honey Walnut Prawns had no taste. Very bland, loaded with mayo. This dish was the worst out of all. General Tsao Chicken was average at best. I could have bought Trader Joes Orange Chicken and accomplish this better than this one. Meal wasnt cheap, so I probably will try other places before coming back here. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, don't bother coming to this place. Its Americanized Chinese food. For authentic, go to New Lim.

A friend recommended it for lunch...since i drove all the way up to walnut creek from san jose, i figured there must be something to this place other than being just another chinese place...because i could have just stayed in san jose to eat that kind of food. Parking for the restaurant is in the back, so don't worry that they only have three spots along the street-front of the restaurant. I am not a big fan of hot sour soup as a standard appetizer in chinese restaurants, but i'll forgive them for catering to the stereotype that the general masses prefer that type of soup to start out the meal...i think it's yucky regardless of what restaurant serves it. He had the Spicy Orange Chicken and I had the Fish Fillet in Black Bean Sauce--both from the lunch special menu (both under $8 each). He was raving about the orange chicken and it was good...not as much batter as other places, and good sized pieces of chicken. Also, unlike most other places, the SPICY orange chicken was actually a bit spicy...not too much, but enough to give it some zing outside of just the light orange taste. The black bean sauce fish was also quite good. You can't really screw it up, but the sauce was not overwhelming, the fish portion was plentiful, and the veggies were fresh and crisp. The meal is served with white or brown rice which was a nice touch seeing that i'm trying to avoid the 5 evil whites (white pasta, white rice, white flour, white bread, and white something else). Overall the place was very clean (miraculously clean for a chinese restaurant), the service was friendly and attentive, and the experience was one of the better ones I've had at a chinese restaurant. Happy Eating!

A nice surprise on a friday that we wanted to eat something around, but we didn't want to deal with the downtown parking drama. Friday night, no wait. The food was really great, the lettuce wraps were so yyuummyy!! We had chicken & green beans, black beans souce beef, chow mein, sizzling rice soup. Everything was sooo good! And as far as Walnut Creek goes, prices there are not bad at all!! I'm sure, I'll be back!

My fiance and I had dinner here last night. We followed the signs to their private lot and were pleased to find plenty of parking. The entrance is just past their restaurant if you are on North Main heading towards Treat Blvd. There is also a convenient rear entrance so we didn't have to hike around the buildings to get into the restaurant. The first thing I noticed is that Yan's is much larger and nicer than it looks from the outside. We were seated at a table on the side of the restaurant with the bar. I found their speciality drinks to be well priced - my Zintini (green tea liquor and absolute citron) was less than $7. We ordered the crab and cheese puffs, Mu Shu pork, beef with snow peas and mushrooms, and steamed rice. Everything was delicious and the sauces were good but not too overwhelming. I often find that places will make very thick, strong sauces to cover up lower quality of meat and vegetables. This was not the case at Yan's, and the flavor of their fresh ingredients still came through. I would definitely consider coming here with a group because they have a nice, mostly enclosed, patio and they offer a banquet menu for $18 a person that includes a variety of entrees.

My previous review went from 5 to 1. I've came back here several times after my first great review and every since it gets worst and worst. I thought well maybe they just had one bad day but my third worst visit was my final straw. All the food just tasted so weird and horrible.. Super disappointed.

We really like Yans. We order takeout on a fairly regular basis and have always been happy with what we get. I pretty much always order Kung Pao shrimp, and it's always great. We also like their spicy green beans and moo shu shrimp. They also have a decent drink menu if you dine in the restaurant. It's a little on the pricey side for what it is, but it's the best I've found in the neighborhood.

Diamond in the rough I think is the best way to put it for me. One of the first places I tried when I moved to WC last year. Just wanted some Chinese food and wasn't expecting much. A lot of unique flavors with their dishes. It tastes fresh too. I've been back several times with family and friends, and the food's been consistent as well.

I must admit, I had forgotten that a colleague of mine and I had lunch at Yan's China Bistro and Bar about a month ago. We had a very good luncheon special and the hostess and staff were very accommodating and gracious. When my wife told me that one of her student's family owned a Chinese restaurant in Walnut Creek, I didn't associate it with the one where we had lunch. So my wife wanted to take my mother-in-law there for her birthday, and I must say, it was a feast! We were greeted by host and owner, Alex Yan, and seated in the bar area (where the LSU-Alabama game was being televised). We ordered four dishes (sweet-and-sour pork, beef with asparagus, fried rice and lemon chicken. If there are tastier dishes in Walnut Creek, I would sure like to know about it. Alex even brought three slices of a delicious capuccino mousse cake for my mother-in-law and everyone joined in a chorus of "Happy Birthday". In addition to terrific food, it was an extremely friendly place - the perfect neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The Yans have another China Bistro in Alamo, and their family owns and runs Yan's in Lafayette. So the next time you have a hankering for delicious Asian cuisine, be sure to make a reservation at Yan's China Bistro and Bar.

Today was my first visit here. Came with a friend who had been here before and knew they didn't use MSG. I liked that they are open for lunch on a Sunday! We had the egg drop/corn chowder and it was good. I had the prawns with mixed veggies and my friend had the honey walnut prawns. I like that you get the option of brown rice or white rice. Excellent food...and enough for lunch tomorrow. I'll be back again.

I really want to give this place 5 stars just for the wine list alone! There is a large selection (20ish) wines by the glass at amazingly low prices (I believe there is one for $9.50 and that is the highest priced glass) and I would guess probably 60-100 more wines by the bottle. The owner Alex has a great feel for wines and really has the best wine by the glass prices I have seen anywhere around. They have a full bar and TV's for those who want to watch a game and grab a drink, or just hangout after work and relax. There are allot of options for food although I mostly stick with the Mongolian Beef (really want to try the lamb). I have been here with 3 other friends a few times and everyone has liked what they have eaten. Again to me the real highlight is the wine selection (not to take anything away from the food) and is the reason I continue to go here. Good food and good wine in the same place is a hard thing to find for these prices anywhere, especially since its not your run of the mill house wines.

This place is good value for the money. First thing is the decor, modern feel with lots of lights and mirrors, making the place seem a lot bigger than it is. It also had a very warm and cozy feel to it. The waiters were courteous and always making sure we were being taken care of. Never an empty glass of water or beverage on our table. The food was absolutely great for what we paid for. We had the sizzling rice soup, mongolian beef, honey walnut prawns, orange chicken, combination chow mein and a few vegetable dishes. Everything was prepared nicely and tasted delicious. For the quality and service, it doesn't get better than this for fast casual chinese food outside of Oakland and San Francisco! Yes, there are probably cheaper places, but for this area (Walnut Creek and Pleasant HIll, Concord) I think this is one of the best values in the East Bay!

I'm always surprised when people give such high rating to mediocre food. Yan's China Bistro is just okay. I guess I'm spoiled, having lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco where they have some of the best food in the world. The people of Walnut Creek need to get out and experience really good Chinese food. Unfortunately, this is NOT it.

This place has a delicious fish and eggplant dish that I keep thinking about. I normally don't like eating eggplant but this place did a great job of cooking it and mixing it w/ black bean sauce and I ended up loving it! The location of the restaurant and getting into the parking lot is a little confusing if you're not familiar w/ the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area but its definitely worth it once you find it! The staff is very friendly and provide fast service. I will be returning for my fish/eggplant dish and more soon!

Leanne E.
Absolutely loved it! The walnut prawns were fantastic, the chow mein some of the best I've ever had, and the very fact that they had sizzling rice soup made everything just a little bit brighter. My only complaint about the food was the General Tsao's Chicken, but my boyfriend and our friend loved it, so of course it's all a matter of opinion. I do wish that they would serve larger sizes for the soup, but that could just be my stomach talking. Another huge plus was that the service was fast and our waiter was friendly. We ended up doing take out a couple days later, and they had it ready for us in ten minutes. Long story short, I'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Visited this place on a whim and was glad I did. Very friendly and prompt service. Nice family atmosphere but cool enough for a bite out to eat with friends. Ordered the family dinner #2 which is more than enough food. The rice soup is excellent...my favorite part of the meal. The chicken and shrimp in our meal was tender and flavorful--not over cooked. Appetizers were good as well--cheese and crab puffs were better than I expected. If you're looking for good Chinese food, this is it.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in the area hands down. I've been there 5 or 6 times and consistently have a great experience. First off, the atmosphere and decor is quite nice, almost upscale and definitely not what I expected when I first went there. I also greatly appreciate that the kitchen is open and visible while walking in the back door. Clean even during busy hours. The food is exceptional. Everything I've had has been top notch. Favorites include Mongolian Beef, Spicy Orange Chicken, and General Tsou's Chicken. The Hot and Sour soup is great and the vegetarian egg rolls are simple but delicious. Service has always been great. A couple of times my party was in a bit of a rush and they took care of us promptly. Another time I got there near closing and didn't feel rushed at all. There's ample parking in the back. Just make a right turn in the driveway immediately past the restaurant. Yan's is definitely one of my mainstay's for Asian cuisine. Highly recommended.

Scoped this place out getting back on the freeway the other day after leaving my girlfriends house. Never noticed it before, so checked out the "Yelps" and we were planning a trip to the CineArts for a movie and I thought we'd try it after the flick. It was 7:30 on a friday and we were able to park right in front (Sweet), and no we didn't make reservations and the place was pretty full but they seated us very quickly. We ordered the puffed crab app. it was okay, and since it was just the two of us we tried not to over order. We had the Spicy Mango Chicken with Snowpeas, Prawns and green beans in a brown sauce (don't know what that sauce was but it was delicious) and chicken fried rice. It was more than enough for the two of us. We took the leftovers home for the next day. The Spicy Mango Chicken was also very good and not that spicy really. I'd like to go again and try a few other things, but for the most part the service was good and food tasty.

The restaurant's interior and exterior are nice and the outside seating looks like it would be great on nice days. The interior was clean, immaculate, really, and the service was fast. I ordered a variety of appetizers for take out. They told me ten minutes and I arrived (a bit early) in five. Hey, this place is a block from my house, so I could walk two laps there in under ten minutes. Once there, I waited about 20 minutes for my food. The crab rangoon was cold. The insides had solidified and the case had started secreting grease. Maybe they are tasty when hot, but when they're room temperature, they're bland like particle board. The calamari was hot and very good. Some of the pieces were chewy, like white steel-belted radials, but most of the pieces were good. The bowl of egg flower soup was enormous and way to hot. Even after sitting for an hour, I burned the roof of my mouth and tongue. They asked me if I wanted rice with my meal but neglected to mention it was extra. This is a huge -- HUGE -- pet peeve of mine. If an additional item at a restaurant costs more, the waiter or waitress or whomever answers the phone better tell me there's an additional price or I should be getting it for free. The exception to this is when McDonalds asks if I want fries with that because, you know, ain't nothin' free at McD's but the stink. Do I see myself going back? Yes. The food being served to people while I waited for my food looked very good. That, and I kind of have a crush on one of the waitresses. Also, the info on Yelp says they deliver -- they ONLY deliver for catered events, all else is carry-out.

Stylish restaurant for the area. I wouldn't gave eaten here if they used MSG so I was very happy to learn that they don't use it. That said, althought the menu looked delicious, the food was somehow lacking flavour - and belive me, I never eat MSG, so it wasn't the lack of it to blame. The spicy orange chicken was great, as were the walnut prawns, but the pepper beef was uninteresting. I'll go here again to try other things off the menu.

Yan's has delicious food, friendly service and nice decor. I often come for lunch and enjoy the extensiveness of the lunch menu. Each entree includes salad, soup and brown or white rice. Mongolian chicken is one of my favorites. This is a great neighborhood/family restaurant with street parking and a lot in back. Full bar with a wine shop.

Honey Walnut Prawns looked much better than they tasted. Portions and quality need improvement.

Great local restaurant. This is always my go to place when I need to pick up dinner on the way home from work and I'm feeling too lazy to cook. Prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is top notch. The portions are a good size. I usually have leftovers for the next day and sometimes the day after that as well. I usually order the combo chow fun and sweet and sour prawns. The pepper beef and happy family are also solid options. The staff is incredibly friendly as well. Also, if you work in the area, they have some inexpensive lunch specials that include soup and a side salad. Give them a try!

My wife and I love Yan's for our Sunday lunch/brunch - it's a terrific deal. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is always great. The only downer is that they don't have dim sum - if they did, they'd never get rid of us! Five stars because it's just about the best Chinese food around (and the staff is great - did I mention that?).

Came in last night last minute. I mean really last minute since the place we Yelped originally let us down because they werent serving the Dim Sum we wanted so we ended up here after hitting up Yelp on the BlackBerry ;) ORANGE CHICKEN as suggested by fellow Yelpers and it was prertty good. Even when I got home I threw a couple more down. GARLIC BROCCOLI was expecting the Chinese style but this was actually really, really, good. GARLIC EGGPLANT good but nothing to rave about. Wasnt over cooked like some places tend to do. CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAPS good but nothing to rave about. Staff was really friendly, at first kinda slow but it wasnt to much of a big deal. Shot the sh*t w/ the bartender for a min and even though they didnt use 151 in the Mojito I had it was still pretty good! It was cool not to be in the main crowded part of WC for a change. Never woulda gave this place a chance if it werent for Yelp. Looks like pooh on the outside. When you walk in its like day and night!

A bunch of us just finished a bbq at Heather Farms and wanted to eat Chinese. The decor was very classy and there was a full bar. Most Chinese restaurants are no where near like this. The made my think, " Did we just step into a restaurant that served Chinese food that catered towards more of an American pallet?" I was skeptical at first, but after the first bite, i was amazed. The food was pretty darn good. It may have been the atmosphere that threw me off. Either that or a full day of BBQ and volleyball. I recommend this place to anyone that wants Chinese food and can't decide on where to go. YUMMO!!!

Lunch special of Kung Pao Seafood Trio (shrimp, calamari, scallops) was pretty good. Brown or white rice option. I didn't think the salad was that great and didn't care for the corn-based soup they included. Improvements of these would increase a star for me. Maybe give an option for hot and sour soup. Price for my item was $8.25, while most of the other lunch specials are $6.95. Nice setting, though no chopsticks or soy sauce on table. OK for a suburb working lunch.

yan's is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 STARS!!!!!! i had been told that this places rocks & finally got a chance to go when i had a friend in town last week. i have to say, i cant believe how GOOD the food is!!!! we went on a friday night & got a seat right away. the atmosphere was very inviting, not too loud but not too quiet. and the place just smells DELICIOUS!!! we ordered crab rangoons (although they call them something else, crab puffs maybe?), spring rolls, pan fried noodles w/chicken, beef & shrimp and their mango chicken. HOLY SWISS CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING, and i mean EVERYTHING, was out of this world!!!!!! we could not eat it fast enough. you would have thought we hadnt had a meal in days the way we devoured it! great atmosphere great prices AMAZING food A+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Delicious Chinese food at reasonable prices. I used to go to Yan's when they were in El Sob back in the day by the laundromat. I wish they were still there!! This place has good service, a nice set up and great ambiance, and excellent food. My only gripe is parking. I'm glad they're doing well in Walnut Creek now. I'll be back Yan's!

We have both eaten in a gotten take out, though admittedly not in quite awhile. Very delicious but they use allot of garlic. Everything is always fresh. The servers are friendly. My son was recently diagnosed with food allergies so we haven't been able to return in awhile but I look forward to doing so on a date night!

After eating at Yan's in Lafayette for years, and loving the owners and their food, I tried their newer location in Walnut Creek. They did it again! Really comfortable atmosphere, and every dish we tried was better than the last. It is really hard to find good quality Chinese food! Of course I am no expert, but sometimes I find a good place for lunch and the next time I go back for dinner it's not so good. This restaurant is always good! You will get to know the owners because they are there to greet you and check in on you while you are eating. If you love fresh, consistenly delicious, very traditional Chinese food please try Yan's at any location!

I love this place. The lunch special is amazing. For around 7 dollars, you get soup, salad, rice, and an entree. The service is very quick and all the servers have been very nice. I've had the Mongolian beef and pepper beef entrees. They both had a good level of spiciness; my nose was running just a bit by the end of the meal. So- good, cheap Chinese food. :)

Not your typical Chinese restaurant, it has a nice neighborhood feeling bar and the food is very good. Seems to offer a variety of Chinese cuisine styles, and like most Chinese restaurants in the area it is not specifically Cantonese like most in SF. The atmosphere is more sophisticated than the typical Chinese restaurant. Very nice touches, like the table service offered when you order Mu Shu Pork. Friendly staff. Some things don't translate well out of the restaurant ( battered dishes like honey Waknut Prawns) but that should be expected. Definitely a place for a nice date. It is priced very fairly for the experience. It is also convenient to get to , right off on the west side of 680 near Geary Road / Treat Road with ample parking in the back. Lovely. I live near and it's always a pleasure to go or order to-go.

Awful!!! Food was bland and tasteless. My son and I thought we'd try it because we loved the Lafayette branch so much and since they closed we thought the Walnut Creek branch would be just as good. They are nowhere close to the Lafayette branch. We loved the salt and pepper calamari at Yan's Lafayette and ordered it at Walnut Creek. Yuck. The KungPao Chicken was just as bad. The rest of the meal were just as tasteless, I had to ask for soy sauce to sort of enhance the flavor a bit but no success.

I love the food here. Have been a patron for years and this is my go-to restaurant for Chinese food in Walnut Creek. Nice atmosphere -- the people are great -- the food is flavorful and always excellent. Parking in back is easy.

Our favorite East Bay Chinese restaurant. Why? Best veggie egg rolls and hot and sour soup around (favorites). Delicious dishes. High marks from other Yelpers are in order. They don't overcook, over fry or bury food in brown sauce. Place is clean and tastefully decorated. Staff is attentive and friendly. Service is fast. Parking in front limited, plenty in convenient back lot. No, I don't work for them or get free meals (BUT A GOOD SUGGESTION, YAN ARE YOU LISTENING?)

Love Yans!!! The food is fresh and delicious! This is the only chinese place we ever go to. Also the wine selection is off the hook. I don't know of any other chinese restaurant with a full bar and as expansive a wine list (no Salmon Creek wine here). It makes this place good for a quick bite or full on celebration meal. Our favorites are the Kung Pow Chicken, Sechechuan Chicken, Broccoli Beef/Chicken, and Mu Shu. We weren't big fans of the short ribs, they seemed to be more bones and pepper than anything else, however the chow mein is probably the best I've ever had. Plus, the prices and service are way better than others such as PF Chang/ Uncle Yu.

PRO: * good Chinese food * good prices * friendly service and fast * parking (limited) in front; much more in back CON: * none now, that they're open on Mondays, too specific food recommendations: * shrimp fried rice, spicy tofu with pork (my son and cousins love the chicken with lemon sauce but that's just okay to me)

I don't want to give away the 5 stars so easily, but I couldn't think of anything wrong with this place! It's never super busy so the small parking lot in the back is not an issue. When it comes to Chinese food, especially the meat products, I am always worried that the chunk of meat that's fried and covered in a sauce is going to be questionable...at Yan's you can always tell what it is! The servers are always extremely polite and accommodating and I have not had better Hot and Sour Soup. Another added bonus ( I am sensing a pattern here) is that the drinks are strong and pretty cheap too. It's open area seating and long tables makes it perfect for large get togethers, but the lighting and smaller tables also make it perfect for romantic evenings too.

Kid-friendly, good food and what a bargain! We fed a family of 4 for lunch one day for under $30 bucks and still had left-overs for the next day. We can barely eat at taco bell for that and this was a full sit-down affair.

Love this place! Every time I go or get take out the food is amazing. The wait staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a wonderful lunch or dinner. I'd give it even more stars if I could!

We live in Walnut Creek and decided to look up Chinese restaurants in the area for take-out. Based on the reviews, we decided on this place--all the reviews were fantastic. But much to our disappointment Yan's was not very good at all. We ordered veggie egg rolls, veggie fried rice, sweet & sour soup, spicy orange chicken, and beef with asparagus. We won't be going back to Yan's . We've had much better elsewhere.

We have ordered food from here several times and love it. We always get it to-go, but once I ate in the restaurant with a group of friends. The people working here are so nice and helpful and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the cashew chicken, sweet & sour pork, and the mu shu with vegetables. YUM!!!
(4)
Ruth D.
We always have good food here and very good service. The lunch specials are a great deal --fast --hot, and excellent quality. Don't like the "ambience lacking" location, but once you get in, the decor is OK.
(4)
Gwynne G.
The food is pretty good. However, if you place a take out order on a Friday night, they will tell you "15-20 minutes" but you will probably wait 45 minutes - 1 hour. I understand they get busy, but they should be honest about it when you place your order. It's ridiculous to stand there for so long in the tiny little space in front of the cash register with a bunch of other people who are all getting increasing irritated. They should be honest about the wait time and give you the choice to go somewhere else. I won't go back for a while, for this reason. This is the second time this happened.

I love this place!! I had the kung pao three. Scallops, calamari, shrimp in a lovely slightly spicy peanut laden sauce. It was fantastic! My hubby asparagus beef. It was super tender(beef) and the asparagus were perfectly tender crisp. We started with cheese crab puffs. They were sooo wonderful! I had a few glasses of wine from Alex's well stocked collection. Visit this place!!

We ordered the Mongolian Beef, Honey Walnut Pawns and an order of fried rice. The Prawns were too heavy with that weird mayonesse sauce, they gave us very little beef and a lot of onions (which isn't good because it's not called mongolian onion) and the rice was undercooked in the fried rice. It was a horrible experience. Second time? It was just the same. I really tried liking this restaurant but its a no-go.

They were out of mint so no mojitos :( the Mongolian beef and chow mein was great! Same with the crab puffs. The Chinese chicken salad was horrible! The cheap iceberg lettuce with broken up chicken nuggets sprinkled on top and a weird dressing..not my idea of a Chinese chicken salad. Not worth the money. I probably won't be coming back anytime soon...

We've passed by this place many times and often wondered where to park. After reading the yelpers' reviews, we found the parking entrance in the back and the entry from the back, past the kitchen and into the dining room. Rather an odd way to enter a restaurant, but oh well, we're here for lunch. The decor is nice and modern and very "hip." Oh, but wait, Asians know that when they are greeted with ice water and fork at the table, it can't be authentic Chinese. Where are my chopsticks and FREE hot tea? Didn't one yelper said that it was like P.F. Changs? And you know that I do not like PF Changs' (one star) . Bingo, a PF Chang clone! We ordered the salt and pepper pork chops and the shrimp chow mein. Salad and soup were included in the meal. The salad can use more dressing and the soup ( was it sweet and sour soup?) was very peppery and lacked something in the broth to give it more of a flavor. The pork chops were fried and it didn't even taste like pork ~ we ate a lot of the chops with fat fried in fat, so you can guess it was not the best meal for us. It's interesting that I heard at least 2 other patrons ordering the same entree and asked the waiter if it was a good choice. We should have warned them! I was rather impressed with the shrimp chow mein with at least 7 shrimps. However, the noodles were a bit greasy for my taste, but for the price, I think it was a fair deal. I luv any noodle dish, but I would rate this mediocre. BTW, one of the waiters should comb his hair; did he just get out of bed and decided to come to work?

It's a really cute little place and I've heard good things about food here BUT it turned out to be such a disappointment. I ordered the Cantonese chicken chow fun and my husband ordered the black pepper beef with rice. Both dishes were sooo salty & the meat was so starched up that both chicken and beef tasted the same. They also charged us rice for 2 without asking. The extra rice wasn't expensive, but it would have been better service if they had asked.
(2)
Holly T.
Make sure you check out their lunch special. They have a wonderful lunch special 7 days a week 11:30-3pm and it includes salad, soup, entree, white or brown rice for under $8. It is super fresh and high quality food. Also Alex Yan (owner) is very good to work with when planning group functions on site.

Yan's is great for lunch. Sure, the food is not super authentic, but it sure is tasty. My go-to-dish is the Mongolian Beef. My coworkers and I go to Yan's about once or twice a month because the food and service are always stellar. Plus, we can go there and come back to work in about 45 minutes with leftovers in hands.

Really great menu with all the expected Chinese restaurant offerings (including Chop Suey) and some specialties, plus a ton of vegetarian options. I keep getting the Family Style tofu, which has a variety of fresh vegetables, with a decent spicy kick. Brown rice is on the menu, same price as white. Asparagus with garlic was excellent, also fresh. It was tender and crisp, not overcooked. Portions are generous; three dishes for three people left some to take home. They do charge for tea, but you can get green or black. Afterward, you get a fortune cookie AND an Andes chocolate mint, which is just unheard of. Excellent friendly service. I love this place.

Generally lovin the Yan's. I am usually not a big fan of your hole in the wall Chinese place but Yan's is a nice little cut above. The Lemon Shrimp is in a sauce so good you could be eating gum stuck under the table and like it. Overall, great food. Enjoy!

I've lived in the area for a few years and have always been hesitant to go to Yan's based on the exterior. I know, don't just a book by it's cover! After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to give it a shot and I was not disappointed! The Mongolian Beef was awesome! And I mean pretty much the best there is.

As far as Chinese food goes I have never been disappointed at Yans. I have eaten there several times and its definitely the best option for good chinese food in the Pleasant hill walnut creek area. The prices are kind of steep but if the choice is to pay a bit more for food or get cheap crappy food I will go with quality every time.

Elly G.
We were not disappointed when we ate at Yan's. Its a good combination of serving authentic chinese food with a good list of wine. We like the smoked duck and angus beef clay pot. The service is also excellent. We'll surely come back. They are some other dishes that we want to try.

Fried prawns tasted frozen; Honey walnut prawns, bland and soggy; salt pepper porkchops extremely fatty. When the first bites for both husband and I are each full of fat, it's too fatty. Won't be back.

Even if Yan's wasn't right around the corner from my house, it would still be my go-to place for Chinese. Excellent flavors without relying on grease and salt. My current fave: Spicy Mango Chicken...it's like dinner & dessert all in one!

Just average 3 stars for the food, but 2 stars for the price. For what you get, this place is REALLY overpriced. Very small portions for a Chinese place. I've given this place a couple of chances, and I was disappointed both times. Yelp another Chinese place in the 'hood (Sichuan Fortune House)...

Another YELP driven stop within a short distance from the finance's house. We wanted a little something new and different after 9pm on a weeknight. So, we ventured over to check it out. The YELP reviews were pretty good, so we knew we couldn't go wrong. First things first, its open late. We like this since we occasionally get carried away with our normal day to day stuff and still want to eat out. Parking is a tiny bit confusing. We were able to get street rock star parking when we went and did not have to find the lot. The lot is actually past the restaurant and behind it. There is an additional access point if you are heading south on main that is before the restaurant that has been chained up. That seems to confuse people. The restaurant is very cute. The color, the lighting, the art work. I was very tickled to see that they have paintings from my favorite artist, Don Li Ledger all over. I just loved that. We ordered tea, to warm our cold bones, and a couple dishes. We chose a beef and a chicken/eggplant dish. Both were good. I did not love the beef dish, but it was fresh and cooked well. The service here was PHENOMENAL!!! Never once did my water get below half. Maybe it was because the place was not super busy, but they were just very attentive to the patrons without being intrusive. The staff was very polite and made sure that we were satisfied with our meal and were very curtious on our way out. I would really like to give this place a 5, and am hoping to upgrade them on a future dining visit. The plates that I chose were not my favorite, so I will have to keep trying them. I think that the experience, freshness of the food, and service are a 5+. I look forward to eating here again soon. Especially since they are so close, reasonably priced and have take out!!!

Loved the food. Loved the atmosphere. Loved the service. Had the asparagas and beef. I have had it in a couple of places in the past couple months, and have been mostly disappointed (with the exception of one small hole-in-the wall in Martinez). Well, this place hits a home run! The beef was tender and tasty. The asparagas was crisp and crunchy. There was no MSG aftertaste. The lunch price is reasonable. i will definately be back to try more dishes.

Whether you will like this place depends largely on who you are and what your expectations are. This is a very standard American style Chinese food place. Nice atmosphere and a big bar. If you're the kind of person who has been to any authentic Chinese restaurant with Chinese menu on the wall, say, in the last couple months, this is not the place for you. You will be very disappointed. The jasmine tea tasted like water. The brown sauce in the braised tofu dish we ordered also didn't have much taste except salt. But if you haven't been to such a restaurant recently, or ever, this is a decent place - decent meal at a nice atmosphere with somewhat decent prices. You just might enjoy it.

Not the best chinese-american food that I've tried, BUT the place is very comtempoary and clean - very important for a good restaurant standards now. Staffs are attentive. Lunch portion is quite big. We order two vegetarian dishes plus my honey walnut prawn, with a side of egg roll. Egg rolls you can tell is house-made, and I like the fact they charge $3 for 2 eggroll so you don't need to order an entree full of appretizers. The portion they give for the lunch special is as big as a la carte with the rice separated, so you don't feel like you are eating at a fast food joint for a combo plate. All the dishes comes with soup & salad, and they don't make you pay $1 or $2 extra if you request brown rice. Another ++ is, they have a full bar! quite rare to see in chinese restaurant! Decent wine list:)

Yan's has great lunch specials for around $7. Soup, salad, entree and brown or steamed rice. I love the sweet and sour chicken with brown rice. Their potstickers are pretty good. Drinks come with free refills but are a little slow on actually refilling drinks. They also have some great catering options for lunch, and they deliver.

Waited an hour for my pickup..... I was told half hour, that irritated me slightly but it's okay I get they were busy so I was like watever, what I ordered was horrible, Singapore style noodles with curry. Noodles were REALLY dry. A little hard to swallow. The hot and sour soup was plain but it's clean tasting so that's always good I guess, needs more flavor. I don't know if I'll go back

We dined here on 3/22/08. I was very skeptical to try it but my lawyer recommended it. The private parking lot is in the back, good thing they have lots of signs. The back entrance is very welcoming. I was a little confused about where the front counter was but as soon as I saw it down the hall and around the wall, it was very clear. We were seated right away and had a lovely window seat. Service was good. I saw a drink at the bar that looked yummy so I asked what it was and the guy seating us said, "Shorry nipple" (at least that's what I heard).. I kept asking him to repeat it and repeat it. Finally the bartender said, "Shirley Temple". I love the clean dinner ware!!! We had the Hot and Sour soup to start. Very good. My boyfriend ordered the Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet. He liked it but I don't like sweet and sour anything so I hated it. I got the Mango Chicken with Snow Peas... It was very interesting. I thought it was edible, boyfriend hated it. I won't order that again. We took the left overs home and they didn't taste any better. I don't think my boyfriend finished his left overs, I think he threw it out when I wasn't watching (I don't like to waste food). When I go back I'm going to order the peppered beef dish and maybe some chow fun or chow mein. I'll try to stick with the common dishes. I'll write another review then. If I remember, I'll get some pictures too.

Absolutely the best Chinese food in the East Bay! The wine menu is fabulous and more than reasonably priced!

I admit to being biased since it is convenient to where I live. That being said I am also very critical of poorly done chinese food. Although you won't find a real regional cuisine being attempted here, they do raise the bar on chinese-american standards. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have only had one or two dishes that were bland or boring. I recommend ordering off of the specials your first time. Sechuan chicken, lettuce wrapped chicken, orange chicken or salt and pepper calamari would be a good place to start. Soups and appetizers are good with potstickers and wonton soup being average and chicken dumplings and corn soup being excellent. They offer brown rice in addition to the standard steamed and fried. I actually prefer the brown after trying all three. The owner and staff are very nice and give prompt service. The atmosphere is definitely bistro and I usually choose to sit in the elevated bar area rather than the dining room. They make very good mixed drinks so don't be afraid to venture beyond the usual beer and wine. I can recommend the cosmopolitan, french martini and the margarita. I still go to some other chinese places because they have one or two specials that they do better, but Yan's is the most consistent on all fronts. It also is perfect for bringing a date or someone special since the atmosphere isn't the usual cafeteria setting.

The Chicken Fried Rice was absolutely the best and the Combination Hong Kong Style Chow Mein always beats anywhere. Also tried the Honey Walnut Prawns, Kung Pao Shrimp, and Hot and Sour Soup and I have to say they were delicious. If you want delicious Chinese Food I would give it a try.

When I was growing up my family had that one Chinese food restaurant that we would always go to. When I went away to college I could not find anything that compared. Now that I am back in my hometown, you would think that my family would be back at the same old restaurant. But since then, Yan's has arrived. Yan's is excellent. They have a wonderful variety of dishes and drinks and are very polite. They have plenty of parking in the back and are always quick. When you order for takeout it is just as good as if you eat there, which is really important to us since we often like to eat at home. Yan's has an awesome selection of vegetarian dishes, mastering the art of Tofu. Most places leave their tofu lacking in flavor and texture, not Yan's! Yan's is reasonably priced, with great lunch specials. Their vegetable fried rice is mouth watering. They don't hold back with the zucchini and water chestnuts. I always order it without mushrooms and they have never had an issue with it nor have they ever forgotten my request. My only complaints are that you have to ask for soy sauce and chopsticks. Soy sauce should always be served with rice in my opinion. I also am not a fan of their corn soup, which seems to be the most common available soup. Their sweet and sour soup is awesome, just rarely available. All in all, my family loves Yan's. My parents frequent the Alamo restaurant while my boyfriend, co-workers and I frequent the Pleasant Hill location. Both are excellent!

It was surprising how nice it was on the inside of the restuarant. We sat in the bar area and stuck with apetizers for our meals. They were good, but not the best I've had. I think I was just caught off guard because from the outside you dont have high expecatiations. For drinks I had a Vodka tonic, but it came in a kiddie cup and for $5.50 I expect more, so I ordered a fruity type drink and had better results. I wouldn't order the crab and cheese appetizer, but the wontons, dumplings, and sweet and sour soup were decent. I'd go back, it was clean, good food, and moderately priced.

Updating since we did go for a dinner a few months ago. Very good food, same quality as lunch and good professional service. If you like the idea of combining good quality Cantonese style food with a classy Western-style wine bar, you'll enjoy it! We'll keep coming at lunch which is a better value.

We arrived with the beginning of the dinner rush, but also just before the dinner rush help, so service was frantic at first. Once the rest of their staff arrived, everything was smooth. The food was well-flavored and plentiful. The seasoning was throughout the dish and not just in flecks, the sauces were balanced with the rest of the meal, and the ingredients tasted fresh and cooked just right. The spice level on my dish (General Tzo's, up to transliteration) was a little below what I wanted, but it more than made up for it by having a full and rich flavor. My wife's curry dish was HUGE. It lasted for three meals. Again, not too heavy on the curry, but that's how we prefer it. Given the quantities, Yan's is not expensive. Limiting yourself to proper serving sizes will leave plenty of leftovers. And it's telling that the leftovers did not taste as good as fresh. The sauces and seasonings already were married to the dishes; more time did not bring out more flavors as it does with many restaurants.

good food and exceptional service. It is a notch above your average Chinese restaurant with a nice decor and a drink list. It is still casual though. If you order take out it is ready very fast. It is a bit pricey for chines and the portions aren't the biggest, but the food is good.

I liked this restaurant, but it just didn't stand out very much. The food was good, service was good, but nothing really popped. Their menu is very large. I would like to see them develop some specials or something unique, I feel like they are capable of it. There is a nice bar inside. Parking is available but it's in the back of the building or in a few of the street spots on Main.

I've been to this place a few times now. I've only been here during lunch. Their lunch special is pretty good. It comes with soup, salad, rice and entree. I love that they serve brown rice and don't charge extra for it. Yeah! Also, they give you a huge portion of food. One thing I wished they did was make an eggplant with chicken lunch special. They have an eggplant lunch special, but to add chicken you have to pay extra and they don't put that much chicken in it. But overall, I think the food is good and they are pretty quick to get your order to you.

I'm really picky about my Chinese food. Yan's is so fresh, the vegetables are crisp, the tofu is fried just how I like it, and nothing is drowning in oil. My son loves their sweet and sour chicken, you can tell it's fresh and not under a heat lamp. I appreciate that they have yummy brown rice as an option. By far my favorite dish is the spicy string beans. Yummy! Great service, friendly staff, cleane, very nice interior if you are dining in, and they are super quick on take out orders. Oh and lots of free parking in the back.

Ahh, the tastey leftovers! We went to Yan's yesterday for lunch...were trying to decide, Yan's or PF Changs. We were totally impressed. It's not easy to find good chinese food that doesn't cost a fortune like PF. We ordered the lunch specials. I had the Schechuan chicken and she had the shrimp with vegetables. Both were made with super fresh incredients. The chicken was white meat and very juicy for being deep fried. The sauce was tangy and a little spicey, but some of the best Schechuan I have had in a long time. I am hesitant about ordering shrimp for the first time, but they were very fresh and cleaned properly. The shrimp and veggie dish was very very flavorful! Our total bill game to $8 a piece, you can't beat that for lunch, and I am enjoying both dishes two other full meals the next day! We will definately be back!

This restaurant has a really nice atmosphere to it. They also have a full bar if that is what you are looking for. I came here for dinner once. The food they had tasted pretty good, though in my opinion, it wasn't something very special. I guess they serve good food, with room for some improvement. Still, I enjoyed my meal here and was satisfied. It's slightly pricier than your average Chinese restaurant, but the portions they give are pretty decent and more than enough. It's a nice place to try if you are every in the area.

Moved to the Walnut Creek area from San Francisco a short time ago and have been looking for a go-to Chinese food restaurant. For what it's worth, I was a big fan of Eric's Chinese and Jasmine Tea House in SF. I have tried a few Chinese food places in the area and this is by far the best. The food is very tasty, prices are good, the service is great and the interior is inviting. I cannot say all of those things about other places I have been. I will definitely be going back. We particularly liked the garlic eggplant.

pretty good food. the lunch specials are big portions, decent flavor. fairly westernized. it's away from downtown walnut creek, closer to pleasant hill, so theres not much going on around the restaurant.

My favorite place for delicious Chinese food! Not too far from downtown W.C. and they have parking behind the building. My favorite is the Honey Walnut Prawns....mmmmmmm..... Sometimes we order to-go and other times we eat there, but it's always quick, pleasant service, reasonably priced, and delicious!

What a waste of $70.00. The staff is really weird here. They hardly speak English which means you have to say what you want over and over until they get what you're saying. We ordered plenty to try and this is what we all collectively thought.: The crab wantons were definitely not up to par. They came out thin and greasy, with very little filling. The plum sauce tasted like it was from a bottle. The chicken dumplings were real small and reminded me of a bag I have in my freezer. The chicken lettuce wraps were not as good as PF Changs but were decent rendition. The real disappointment was when the main entree's came out. The honey walnut prawns tasted real floury and bland. The Mongolian beef was just spicy and honestly the beef tasted like cheap cuts. The Chicken and green beans dish came out with limp overcooked beans and the sauce tasted like an oyster-mushroom sauce I get in a bottle from the supermarket. Absolutely uninspiring as far as taste goes. The staff made the experience worse. We were done with our food and they brought us the bill. Usually restaurants ask if you would like dessert before bringing the bill. In this case we chose not to even attempt the sweets they finally offered. 4 different people waited on us and all of them seemed clueless of what each other were doing. Do yourself a favor and go to Uncle Yu's in lafayette if you want pricey but good "gourmet" type Chinese food.

I've had back-to-back visits with extremely slow service. The food it pretty good. The atmosphere is better than I expected. And even though it's hard to get a server's attention at times, they work very hard and are always polite and friendly.

After I posted my original review, the owner contacted me to resolve any issues that I had. I thought that was a very smart move on his part and it showed real concern about his business. This was the first time in almost 400 Yelps that anyone has taken the time to contact me and I am surprised that more restaurants don't display a little more concern about their cyber profile. I know restaurateurs work hard and their livelihood is dependent on their reputation, but us Yelpers are out spending our hard earned dough too, so it is important to have fair and unbiased reviews. At any rate, Yan's is definitely a pleasant restaurant and I plan on returning again.

check yelp for some dim sum recommendations and came across Yan's China Bistro with 4 stars. Tried it today and was very pleased. The decor was nice..perfect for a date, hanging out with friends or family or just picking up lunch. the service was excellent....they even prepare my mu shu beef for me..no other place ever did that! the food was delicious! better deal than PF Chang...food just as good and the prices are way better.

Spicy Schezuan Chicken. Delicious. Ask for no cabbage though if you get take out. It soaks up all the sauce. 10% off for take out in Alamo location (not Walnut Creek).

This is THE best chinese food I have ever had. We used to live right around the corner from here and now that we live in San Ramon we don't get to Walnut Creek much. We've tried a couple of chinese food places near our house, but none compare. I've never had a bad dish here.

Let me first start off by saying that I am a real stickler on service when it comes to food service. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! The service is fantastic. They fill up your glass before it gets empty, they serve your food at the appropriate times, they don't bug you every single minute when you're trying to eat, their food is soooo DELISH and they are soooooooooooo nice. I go whenever I get the chance. I can't choose one dish that is my favorite. They are all so good..REALLY! The decor is nice too. They have a fresh flower and candle on every table for a nice ambiance. Great for a first date ;) ...P.S...they have a full bar. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants clean Chinese food that is superb with excellent service.

I've been a couple times: Once with a group of people who all ordered dishes and we shared them all. The food was just great. Then tonight, my husband and I went for dinner. We ordered a terrific Chinese Chicken Salad and spicy Mongolian Beef. Of course I ordered a Cosmopolitan. Everthing was excellent. Attentive service, very good food, wonderful ambience. Not only was my Cosmo generous in size, it was small in price $6.75. Forget the parking hassle and wait with PF Chang's, this place is super easy to get in to!

The parking for the place is a little trying to get to, but once you do, you're all set. I have to say the food here is pretty good. We had the Yan's Banquet Menu and for $18 a person you really get a nice array of different entrees to eat. My personal favorites were the Mongolian Beef, the Honey Walnut Prawns, General Tsou's Chicken (all breast meat, which I liked) and the Happy Family entree. The staff was friendly and the restaurant looked very clean. I can't say what differentiates "authentic" Chinese from "American" Chinese food, but I am very glad I tried Yan's and I will be back for more.

Wanted to try a new Chinese place in town and went here with my dad and gf to celebrate a graduation, turned out to be a good choice! Food was great, definitely recommend the hot and sour soup and the Hong Kong noodles! Their specialty drinks were creative and not badly priced. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. Some entrees may have been a little over priced but many were still very reasonable. Over a pretty good deal! I'm sure i'll be back to get some soup for take out.

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in WC. The eggplant is consistently good. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. It is always hot and fresh!

Their lunch special is a good deal, comes with salad, soup, rice and entree of your choice. I wouldn't say the quality of the food is amazing, or anything close to that, but it's decent, good for times when you just don't feel like cooking (for me, that's most of the time). Note, they serve brown rice at no extra cost, that's kinda cool.

Yan's is a good reminder that one shouldn't judge a restaurant by its exterior, nor its back entrance. Very clean decor, great service, and their Shanghai dumplings, lettuce wraps, and HK style pan-fried chow mein all hit the mark. The only nega' about this place is its location, but you can't fault them for that.

This new place in Walnut Creek has quickly become a favorite of my friends and I. Basically, it's a slightly upscale Chinese restaurant with a full bar and fantastic food. I'm not talking upscale-trendy-restaurant fantastic, I'm talking fantastic! On our first visit we tried two dishes that are good tests of a Chinese restaurant kitchen - the deep-fried calamari and the orange chicken. The salt and pepper fried calamari was an enormous platter of huge planks of calamari, salty and light. They were so good that when we arrived home with leftovers, now cold, they were still delicious. How often can fried food say that? The orange chicken had a bit of heat to it, and a light breading, light years away from the orange marmalade soaked gooey lumps you sometimes get. We also ordered fried rice, and unbelievably, you could taste each flavor in the dish. It was the best fried rice I've had in a long time. The restaurant is slightly more expensive than the average hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, but the atmosphere is warm, everything inside is shiny and new, the wait staff are excellent, and there's even a small patio out back if you prefer to sit outside. There's a huge parking lot behind the restaurant so parking's no problem (a rarity in Walnut Creek). Definitely check this place out before word gets out about it. Soon it will be hard to get into on a weekend night!

Truly a wonderful restaurant with extremely caring owners and TASTY food. I had my birthday dinner here in June and it went absolutely perfectly. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and clean and the staff was kind enough to set up my dinner in its own room! All of my friends raved about the delicious food and the reasonable prices. I remember being most impressed by the fact that we continued to chat after the restaurant was technically closed, and the waiter stayed behind and did not rush us out or even mention that the restaurant was closed. It was very polite of him and I appreciated having my dinner at such a friendly location. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant and I recommend it highly to everyone!

I really like this place, I always get the Sweet & Sour Pork. The restaurant has a great feel to it and the prices aren't bad. They have a VERY laid back atmosphere here, sometimes it's to much so when the waiter doesn't bring you the bill for a long time.

This is one of our favorite places for lunch, or dinner, or take out. Fresh ingredients and flavorful food. I've liked everything they have on the menu, especially the Spicy Eggplant, and the Curry Vegtable dish. Their food and restaurant has that modern flair, like PF Changs, which we also give 5 stars. The food at Yan's China Bistro is a great fit for people who like healthy food with lots of vegetables (or even all vegetarian) with lots of flavor. (This place is not one of those flavorless, low sodium places, but who really wants that anyway?) Like PF Changs, this place has a nice dark wood ambiance, nice lighting (not too bright like so many other places), and nice decor, which creates that comfortable relaxing feeling, and thus it is one of the few Chinese restaurants where we actually dine in. You'll find the food here just a touch more expensive than the typical small Chinese restaurant, but it's definately cheaper than PF Changs. The food at Yans makes great take out too, especially when you crave chinese food that is nice and clean with some modern flair, and an upgrade over your average Chinese restaurant.

3.5 stars We order takeout here a fair amount (close to home)-we like the beef with broccoli, potstickers, and chicken chow mein. Service is good, and they have a nice lunch deal (soup/rice/main entree) for 11ish dollars. The decor is a little odd and they have tv's in several parts of the restaurant which I find distracting. Not the best chinese I've ever had but its just fine on days when you REALLY dont want to cook or go out.

I don't know if it would be exactly fair to say I am a true connoisseur of the vast array of dishes which constitute Chinese cuisine, but it isn't for lack of trying. Like many of you I have tried literally hundreds of Chinese restaurants, and frankly, have found most wanting. I had driven past Yan's China Bistro for years before I told my wife we should give it a try. To be fair we had several choices we found more than adequate over the years, but we are always willing to try something new. We are both so glad we stopped in! The menu is extensive, the food is cooked fresh and the sauces are divine. They prepare dishes from a wide variety of styles, from Szechuan to Cantonese and beyond, however they tend toward generous and sublime use of traditional spices. Moreover, if you have a preference to style or flavoring the cooks are happy to accommodate virtually any request. Feel free to order off the menu! Although neither of us drinks, I must say that I am impressed with their wine selections. If I had to come up with a deficiency of any kind I guess I would have to say that I would like to have more options containing duck (one of my favorites). Nevertheless, there is more than enough here to keep my palate excited and sated. Finally, the staff is wonderful. They are attentive without being intrusive. We have found a new favorite, and to think it has been around the corner all of these years! Try it, you'll like it.

Great flavors, good prices. We had three of the monthly specials, Feb '08. The dumplings (with the great ginger/vinegar sauce), Chow Fun (sp?)a beef, chicken, shrimp, combination with yellow curry, and last, the Spicy Mango Chicken. We added their walnut prawns. All in all, the flavors were so very, very solid and blended well, from dish to dish. With 2 drinks and a pot of tea, our total bill for the 4 of us was $60 + tip. As mentioned by others, enter the "parking at the rear" just beyond the restaurant. This is a keeper! We will be back!

I just recently had my dad's birthday party at Yan's China Bistro and it was great! It has a semi-private area that's off to the left side and it's perfect for hosting a quaint party of 30-35 people. My dad's party was last Saturday (3/13/10) when the lumber yard across the street caught fire. It was a party that almost didn't happen because of the limited access to the street. Needless to say, everyone got to the restaurant and Alex (the owner) was awesome. The food was very good and plentiful. Our favorites were the Fried Prawns, General Tsou Chicken, and Spicy Mango Chicken...but honestly, everything was really good. Alex and his staff took care of my party really well and were very attentive. It was a good birthday dinner for my dad.

I moved here not too long ago and had lunch. Ever since, it has been the best place for take out. Give them 15 minutes and they are good to go with your food. Their egg drop soup, general tso chicken, broccoli and chicken are good. They are always consistent!!

Although I live within walking distance to Yan's Bistro, for some reason I had just never made it in there until a few days ago. I was initially struck by their wine display in the front entrance--they had a lot of really good stuff, and apparently wine is now available for retail as well. They had a lot of older vintage Napa wines at decent prices. I was intrigued; however, nothing pairs better with Chinese food than beer! The 3 of us were promptly seated in the portion of the dining room with the bar and ordered drinks while perusing the menu: Sapporo for me, a blue Hawaiian for Sarah (she was feeling really girly!), and a root beer for the bf. We decided on food pretty quickly and placed our order. Our appetizer (crab wontons, $6 for 6) came out quickly, but we were all pretty disappointed with it. The wontons themselves were flat, leathery, and greasy, with VERY little crab filling. A unanimous thumbs down. For entrees, the batter on the sweet and sour chicken was light, crispy and very good, and we all enjoyed the moo shu chicken as well. The veggie rice noodles were just ok, as they were heavily flavored with yellow curry, which was fine for me, but not for my bf who has very little tolerance for spicy. The biggest disappointment of the evening was the "Crispy Chinese 5-Spice Duck with Steamed Buns." It sounded so delicious! We were presented with a plate of deep-fried duck parts (legs, thighs, etc.) that were painfully dry and flavorless and devoid of any kind of sauce, accompanied by 4 buns that were tough, dense, and possibly made many hours before service. This dish was such and absolute FAIL that I actually felt bad for the poor duck who had to die for it! When we had finished with the other dishes, the manger cleared our table and asked us if we wanted to wrap the duck, which had obviously barely been touched. We said no, and he made no inquiries as to whether the dish was ok; he simply brought us our bill, seeming unconcerned about the poor destroyed duck. Even thought the moo shu and sweet and sour chicken were good, I highly doubt I'll ever return, since those items are available at any Chinese place. There are too many other great restaurants in the Bay Area to waste my time at a mediocre one like Yan's. For the best Chinese, I'll stick with Cal Wok on Clayton Rd.

This was a pretty darn good chinese restaurant. Have been back a few times and it's consistently good. The honey walnut prawns are really good, same with the mango chicken!!

We were impressed with this nice little Chinese restaurant. I got the Honey Walnut Prawns and they were very good. The shrimp was fresh, the batter not too thick but not mushy, and the sauce was the right thickness and not too sweet. Not the best I've ever had but possibly the best I've had in the Bay Area. My wife got a tofu dish that was also very good. The only thing we didn't care for was the hot and sour soup. It was very bland and watery. Maybe it was just the lunch version of the soup or maybe they just don't want to make it too spicy for the locals... Good prices, too!

I recently went to Yan's for the first time. I had recently attempted to go to Yan's with my wife a month or so ago for lunch. We were unaware of their hours and when we got there they told us we were too late for lunch and would be closing until the dinner service. So make sure you go when its open. :) So we passed on it that day. Then today I went for lunch with my boss. The price was a bit higher then other places I have gone to for Chinese lunch, and the portions were on the smaller side, BUT the food was good. The staff was nice and very prompt to fill the water. I had Mongolian Beef, its my favorite and I always order it when trying out new Chinese to see how it compares to other places I really like. It was prettyy good. Could of used a bit more spice, but I can't hold my personal preference against them. Although they did skimp on the beef. I ordered Mongolian Beef, not a vegetable plate with some Mongolian beef mixed in. The rice, I know "the rice?", yes the rice. It was good, had a bit of garlic to it and perfectly made, not too sticky, not too loose. Not sure how much the total price was for lunch, Chief paid, so I don't know the total price for the two of us. The place is smaller but well organized and not too noisy so it balanced out. Very clean as well. Definitely would go again.

Great food and good for bringing the kids. Staff is pleasant and attentive.

Best chinese I have had in the burbs. Not as greasy and definitley more flavorful than most of the stuff you find out here. The eggplant and orange chicken are the best!

Very Good and inexpensive! I first found this location when I was driving by and saw that a new asian restaurant was going in- my favorite cusine, so I was excited to try it. When I went in the first time, I realized that it was an expansion of the Yan's in Lafayette- I am glad that they are doing so well- great place!

Excellent food. However, they do NOT deliver, despite what the overview says. It's worth going in or taking out.

This place is pretty good. It opened where the old Pasta Primavera was. The food wasn't anything to write home about... it was your typical Chinese fare. The only thing that really stood out to me was that if you park your car in the back behind the restaurant, you can enter the restaurant through the back door and through the kitchen, back to the front of the restaurant. It's more convenient than walking all the way around the side of the restaurant.

I took the extended family here based on the positive reviews and was not disappointed. The food was good (not the best Chinese I've had ever, but still overall very good). The garlic eggplant was especially delish, which is good, since it's my favorite dish to order in Chinese restaurants. The thing that makes this restaurant stand out from other Chinese restaurants is the service. Our waiter was super nice and friendly, and others on the staff kept coming by making sure our water glasses were full and that everything was ok. This is a far cry from your average Chinese restaurant, where you're lucky if they even give you a hello or thank you. Give Yan's a try. I recommend it.

The food here is really good and the atmosphere is pleasant. The staff is attentive and the service is very quick. They have healthy alternatives like lettuce rolls, veggie dishes and brown rice if you're into that kind of thing. But they also have great black bean and brown sauces, honey walnut prawns, fish, and noodles. There's also a full bar with a TV tuned to sports - no volume - so you can keep up on whatever's playing while you enjoy some really delicious Chinese cooking.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

(4)Karmen D.
(4)Paul H.
(5)Mary W.
(3)Heidimarie R.
(5)Tonya W.
Alex is amazing! I brought him fresh Halibut from Alaska and the dish he made was unbelievable! If you want great food go to Yan's. The owner is a great person and his food never disappoints.
(5)Loricita B.
(1)Rob C.
Excellent Food, great wine list, and friendly, helpful and great staff. My lobster was perfect and so was the fried rice. I would not normally pick chinese food as my first choice but I will be returning to this Yan's many times.
(5)Ashley F.
(1)Robin W.
I eat at Yan's quite a bit and have never been disappointed. There Mongolian Beef is probably the best I have every had and I also love the Chicken and Asparagus (ask for it a little spicy). The decor is very nice and the staff is attentive.
(4)Alexys E.
(4)Denise J.
(5)Peter N.
(3)Ben C.
Enjoyed the food, great service, Warrior game was on tv, good amount of people there for a Wednesday night, used their wifi to get some work done. Will return. Yo Yo
(4)Alex S.
(5)Jack S.
(3)Lorantz Z.
(2)Paul C.
(4)Jeremy M.
Yan's is beyond amazing. Alex's selection of wines, yes wines, is indescribable. You will have to page through the multi-page listing yourself. The food is excellent as well. If you are into spicy, make sure you ask for it really spicy as they tend to lean towards the not hot side.
(5)Paula S.
(5)Sean R.
(4)Olive D.
This is a solid little Chinese American bistro with a full bar and extensive wine list. The food is consistently hot, fresh and delicious and the service is attentive. I prefer this to PF Changs aand the prices are in line with your run of the mill no frills takeout.
(4)Terri N.
(3)Suresh D.
(4)Maggie B.
(4)Jamie A.
Very surprised to find a high quality Chinese take-away in Pleasant Hill. Portions were huge and were very good quality. No waiting around to pick up our food either. Will make this our regular.
(5)Laura C.
LOL!
(2)Mike B.
We have now come here numerous times and we always take family here. The staff is very polite and responsive and the food comes quickly. This is our go to restaurant for Chinese food in the East Bay. The chicken and green beans, broccoli and beef, and chicken chow mein are our favorites.
(5)Mikey P.
Very good, I had the Mongolian Chicken it was very tasty, however it could have been a bit more spicy. Great sevice
(4)Arthur k.
Great place. Clean, full bar (hard liquor included), sufficient parking, good food. The service is quick and attentive. Have been coming here a few times, and consistently good.
(5)Ines C.
Great food, we usually do the take out. They are quick, place seems clean and so far we've received great service. Yummmm!
(5)Ryan C.
(5)Jonathan R.
(3)Yvonne L.
I ordered chicken w/ vegi's & when the dish came it was prawns w/ vegi's! It was too Americanized for me. I had better Americanized Chinese food than that. Sad to say but true! Now i feel like throwing up!
(1)Aric W.
Highly recommend. Friendly, fast, delicious. Nice little bar. Standard items. Clean. Honey walnut prawns are top notch.
(5)Monica N.
(4)Dina m.
(2)Dorothy L.
(4)Ray L.
Like I said in my previous review, the chicken is prepared well. But they've got a sauce problem. See my previous post for the Szechuan. I've since had the orange flavored chicken, and the sauce for that dish just looked and tasted so artificial. It's a real shame.
(3)Patrick T.
Usually just get the Mongolian beef and by far the best place to get that dish. Will have to try out the other dishes soon. Plus staff is very friendly and when I order to go the estimated time is consistent and ready when I get there.
(5)Thomas F.
(5)tina a.

(1)Gina K.

(5)David K.

(5)Valeria D.
I think we found our fav. Restaurant around our area!!! My husband picked up dinner after work and it was just delicious! Great portions, tons of meat unlike other restaurants where it's 90% vegetables. Reasonable prices. We will be coming back for sure!
(5)Marcela L.
Hands down the best Chinese food in the East Bay. The honey walnut prawns are a must and they also have a full bar with great wine selection! Food is so tasty and has me going back at least once a week - not always a good thing but worth it.
(5)Diane W.
green bean with pork was good smoked duck was ok Yan's clay pot was disappointing
(3)Joe M.
I have been here a few times before today and think this is one of the best valued lunches around! Great food, fast service and friendly staff is always nice to come here and enjoy.

Yummmm
(4)Miguel L.
Not only do they have the best and freshest chinese food but the Service really tops it off. So accommodating and friendly! A definite favorite in walnut creek!
(5)Rebecca R.

(2)Scott B.
(2)Chi L.
(4)Len E.
(4)Joanna S.
(4)Daniel B.
(5)mario c.
(2)Ron R.

I have been getting take out the last two months and have not disappointed with anything from Yans.
(4)Brandi W.

(5)Victoria L.

(4)Karabella C.
(3)Bill S.
Looking for an alternative to the chain restaurant. Pot stickers F, chewy, doughy and not all that flavorful Eggplant F overlooked into mush Mongolian Beef C- Chicken Cashew B- Vegetable Chow Main D, dry rope There is nothing redeemable about this place
(1)Jamie L.

(4)S. B.
the two stars for the poor quality of service.
(2)Ndnpharmgrl R.
We gave this place a shot the other night... just as the other reviews stated, the food was bland. I can't say I wouldn't come here again but next time, salt and hot sauce should help. In the meantime, there are better places to go and I would only come back if I wanted something super close by.
(2)William B.
(1)Kevin Z.
(4)Rachael Z.
Strangely awesome wine list. It was hard to notice anything else, but our duck dishes were really awesome as well. Owner run restaurant, lots of fun. Super good prices for what you are getting!
(5)Jennifer N.
(4)Matt L.
(5)Loren M.
(4)C U.
This place is great. The Honey Walnut Prawns are like crack served on a plate! I can that these could become very addicting. Next time we are in Walnut Creek on business, this will be on the itinerary!
(4)Lily S.
(5)Valerie K.
(1)Meg M.
Got the family dinner #1 for two and loved it. Especially the sweet and sour chicken! This being within walking distance of our apartment could prove to be a problem. :)
(4)Rob M.
(2)Robert R.
Okay, Alex the owner personally messaged me about the unfortunate incident I had here. I'm sure if he knew, he would of apologized or at least discounted the item off the bill. I hope the Servers and Cooks can take accountability if this happens again. I will be back Alex to try you out again.
(4)Darren L.

Awesome food....good owners....unbelievable wine selection....bought a 97 barolo.....a must vist....

Super Vegetarian Section! The wine list was insane - vintage really good wine at below market prices and Mmmm so good. Full Bar as well! Service was wonderful Decor was exceptional

(5)Marco M.
The Best Chinese food in the East Bay. Their dishes are very fresh and flavorful. The Egg rolls and Honey Walnut Prawns are very good. Staff is friendly and prices are reasonable. They also do an excellent job at catering.
(5)Misty J.
(5)Angelica M.
Best Chinese (Americanized) in the area. We eat here at least once a week. Salt n pepper baby chops and chicken curry are my favorites!
(4)Nicole M.
Yan's started in El Sobrante and I loved it. I have been looking for the Owner for years. He has the best Chefs. I'm so happy to know that they are now located by my job. I will be dining ASAP.
(5)Doreen R.
Went here on a Saturday at 5:00. Ordered: won ton soup, lettuce wraps, prawn fried rice, sweet n sour chicken and chicken chow mein. The BEST food ever. Fresh food, great service, reasonable prices. All this food came out to $50.00 for 4 of us. Highly recommend this place.
(5)Kitty T.
Ordered their mixed vegetables which was quite salty. Good parking. Nice staff.
(1)wendy r.
My husband and I, LOVe, love this place. We actually never really sit down for a meal here, due to our lil 2 year old daughter. We always order to go. We have been very satisfied with their food!! I highly recommend it. Wish they had delivery
(5)Colbert T.
(3)Sandra A.
Excellent quality, good service, lighting is bad though.
(5)Ivan D.

(5)Emily J.
(4)Ben L.
Great food, friendly staff and clean.
(5)Amanda T.
Best Chinese next to Mings
(4)Ponderous E.
Best place for Chinese food in Walnut Creek. No. Delete that. ..Best place for Chinese food in all of Lamorinda/Walnut Creek area
(5)Alexis G.
My previous review went from 5 to 1. I've came back here several times after my first great review and every since it gets worst and worst. I thought well maybe they just had one bad day but my third worst visit was my final straw. All the food just tasted so weird and horrible.. Super disappointed.
(1)Jessica M.
I love this place. Food is delicious, wait staff is great. Prices are good.
(4)Meghan S.
(4)Pankaj B.

(5)Diane E.
(4)Philthy V.
BEST lunch deal in town AMAZING food & my wife got a free White Russian THE BEST!
(5)Derek R.
(4)Johnny V.
(5)Scott S.
(2)Tracy N.
(4)Leanne E.
(4)Emilie T.
(4)Lloyd S.

(3)David H.
(2)Alex W.
(3)lauren d.
(4)Zac O.
Honey Walnut Prawns looked much better than they tasted. Portions and quality need improvement.
(3)David A.
(5)Lance C.
(5)Marjorie G.
My favorite local chinese restaurant. Lots of flavor and taste! Cons: Expensive for chinese.
(4)Marlon O.
(4)Tyrone L.
YUMMO!!!
(4)Marc S.
(3)Queen V.
yan's is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
(5)Bill J.
Great place. The first good Chinese restaurant I have been to that has a wine list I appreciate, Loved the crispy duck, Mongolian lamb and green beans. Need to work on Xiolóngbo but over all a good experince with nice staf
(5)Dee H.
(5)Trevor W.
Good value and good food - Nuf said!
(4)Wendy F.
(4)Static J.
Walnut prawns and mongo beef are the winners here. Chow mein is a filled with a plethora of vegetables if your into that kind of thing not really my steelo
(4)rochelle n.
(5)Kristen R.
(5)Kenya P.
(4)Linda O.
(1)Catherine H.
I love the food here. Have been a patron for years and this is my go-to restaurant for Chinese food in Walnut Creek. Nice atmosphere -- the people are great -- the food is flavorful and always excellent. Parking in back is easy.
(5)Geovanny S.
(5)Chris P.
The best Chinese food around!!!! Hats off to the chef and the service is on point!
(5)Zaha S.
The only good Chinese in the WC. Great bar tender. Cheap drinks that will knock your sox off.
(4)S. D.
(5)Benny M.
PRO: * good Chinese food * good prices * friendly service and fast * parking (limited) in front; much more in back CON: * none now, that they're open on Mondays, too specific food recommendations: * shrimp fried rice, spicy tofu with pork (my son and cousins love the chicken with lemon sauce but that's just okay to me)
(4)Jessica P.
(5)Eugenia c.
Kid-friendly, good food and what a bargain! We fed a family of 4 for lunch one day for under $30 bucks and still had left-overs for the next day. We can barely eat at taco bell for that and this was a full sit-down affair.
(5)Michelle M.
Love this place! Every time I go or get take out the food is amazing. The wait staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a wonderful lunch or dinner. I'd give it even more stars if I could!
(5)Mary M.
(2)Suzanne C.
We have ordered food from here several times and love it. We always get it to-go, but once I ate in the restaurant with a group of friends. The people working here are so nice and helpful and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the cashew chicken, sweet & sour pork, and the mu shu with vegetables. YUM!!!
(4)Ruth D.
We always have good food here and very good service. The lunch specials are a great deal --fast --hot, and excellent quality. Don't like the "ambience lacking" location, but once you get in, the decor is OK.
(4)Gwynne G.
(3)Jeffrey M.
(4)tina t.
Quick, cheap lunches, I visit often
(4)Kevin W.
(2)Katy A.

(2)Holly T.
(5)Michelle H.
(5)J J.
(5)Greg R.
Generally lovin the Yan's. I am usually not a big fan of your hole in the wall Chinese place but Yan's is a nice little cut above. The Lemon Shrimp is in a sauce so good you could be eating gum stuck under the table and like it. Overall, great food. Enjoy!

Best Chinese food in The Bay!
(5)Lulu P.
(4)Vero V.
(4)Elly G.
We were not disappointed when we ate at Yan's. Its a good combination of serving authentic chinese food with a good list of wine. We like the smoked duck and angus beef clay pot. The service is also excellent. We'll surely come back. They are some other dishes that we want to try.
(4)Judy P.
Fried prawns tasted frozen; Honey walnut prawns, bland and soggy; salt pepper porkchops extremely fatty. When the first bites for both husband and I are each full of fat, it's too fatty. Won't be back.
(1)Jojo H.
Even if Yan's wasn't right around the corner from my house, it would still be my go-to place for Chinese. Excellent flavors without relying on grease and salt. My current fave: Spicy Mango Chicken...it's like dinner & dessert all in one!
(5)Oliver S.
(2)Jennifer P.

(5)Gabrielle T.
(2)Alice L.
(4)Jessica H.
(4)Camille H.
I don't know if I'll go back
(3)Judy T.
(4)Stephen C.
Absolutely the best Chinese food in the East Bay! The wine menu is fabulous and more than reasonably priced!
(5)Richard S.
(5)Ray M.
This is a very good Chinese Restaurant. I love the mongolian lamb and the Sake is vetty good.
(5)Scott R.

(5)Lindsey S.
(3)Matt T.
Updating since we did go for a dinner a few months ago. Very good food, same quality as lunch and good professional service. If you like the idea of combining good quality Cantonese style food with a classy Western-style wine bar, you'll enjoy it! We'll keep coming at lunch which is a better value.
(4)Jason R.
(5)G B.
good food and exceptional service. It is a notch above your average Chinese restaurant with a nice decor and a drink list. It is still casual though. If you order take out it is ready very fast. It is a bit pricey for chines and the portions aren't the biggest, but the food is good.
(4)Claytonian C.
(3)Nickalyn G.
(4)C M.
(5)peggy l.
I have been there 5-6 times in the last year, do not have any complaints, their lettuce wraps are gerrrrrrrrrrrrrr rateeeeeeeeeeeeeee
(4)Nicole K.
(5)Stephanie P.
(4)Eric W.
(4)Tom L.
pretty good food. the lunch specials are big portions, decent flavor. fairly westernized. it's away from downtown walnut creek, closer to pleasant hill, so theres not much going on around the restaurant.
(3)J. L.
(4)T J.
(1)Adam F.
I've had back-to-back visits with extremely slow service. The food it pretty good. The atmosphere is better than I expected. And even though it's hard to get a server's attention at times, they work very hard and are always polite and friendly.
(3)Tony W.
Fried calamari is really good. Slced lenghtwise instead of crosscut but not chewy.
(4)John B.
This place makes some really great beef and broccoli, full flavored, hearty and fresh. You should give some a try and let me know what you think.
(4)Steven S.
good, take out is ready very fast
(4)justin p.
(4)Candice C.
My husband and I came to this place because we wanted to try it out. The food here were fantastic! If you love chinese food, then come try thier chinese food. From the soup to the Kung Pao Trio. Awesome and delicious. My favorite was the Wonton soup.
(4)Lawanna N.
check yelp for some dim sum recommendations and came across Yan's China Bistro with 4 stars.
(5)Jessica L.
I love, love, love their food and service. The orange chicken is to die for! I highly recommend this spot.
(5)meesh m.
Spicy Schezuan Chicken. Delicious. Ask for no cabbage though if you get take out. It soaks up all the sauce. 10% off for take out in Alamo location (not Walnut Creek).
(4)Julie H.
This is THE best chinese food I have ever had. We used to live right around the corner from here and now that we live in San Ramon we don't get to Walnut Creek much. We've tried a couple of chinese food places near our house, but none compare. I've never had a bad dish here.
(5)Troy Da Boy S.
ive been going here for a couple years and they never disappoint. food is consistent. try the chicken chow fun and you too will believe! ask for alex (the owner) to see his "private wine list". YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED. vintage 93's thru 97 and more at family prices.
(5)c k.
(5)M F.
(4)L M.
Excellent food! Hot and Sour is yummy, crisp green beans, sauces were delicious. Nutty brown rice too. Excellent wine selection. The prices are very reasonable.
(5)Susan B.
(4)Ericka D.
Love this place. Great food and fast service. Most take out places seem to skimp on their food when you are taking out but not Yans. Even their take out is as good as eating there.
(4)Neville V.
(4)Kirra W.
This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in WC. The eggplant is consistently good. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. It is always hot and fresh!
(4)CalBear H.
(4)C L.
(4)Susan C.
(5)Irina D.
(5)C D.
We got take out. It was good.
(3)Russel F.
I really like this place, I always get the Sweet & Sour Pork. The restaurant has a great feel to it and the prices aren't bad. They have a VERY laid back atmosphere here, sometimes it's to much so when the waiter doesn't bring you the bill for a long time.
(4)Jackie B.
best chinese food in the bay! we're regulars there so i've tried many dishes and they're all great!
(5)Jenny P.
I LOVE this place!!! They have the best Lemon Chicken I have ever had!! The General Tsao chicken and the Orange chicken is awesome too!
(5)Andrew W.

All of the food was delicious. A little on the more expensive side, but worth it if you would like a more refined chinese food experience.

Very good Chinese Food. Kind of more classy of a place then your normal Chinese place. Very good service, prices are reasonable. Would recommend.

Eaten here a half dozen times - consistently very good. Best chinese in WC in my opinion. Been to all the others. Atmosphere is just ok - a bit stark maybe - but the food is very good - great wine list too - very good service. Park out back ;)
